Serge would take me to Yves Saint Laurent’s haute couture salon and buy us the most exquisite evening clothes. We wore them when Yves came to dinner. It was an eccentric life, and we often wore couture by Givenchy and Balenciaga at home, alone. There were no cameras—it was simply for fun. Serge was upset when Yves moved into ready-to-wear, and sent him a very cutting telegram condemning the move. Yves spent hours crying in a cupboard over that telegram.
