There is No One Right Way
I thought it only appropriate that my first blog post covered this truth which I believe is at the core of social media marketing: There is no one right way.
In recent years we have gone from clunky 3 lb car phones, to smart phones that can do just about everything. We've gone from dial up internet to faster than lightning speed internet. And we've taken something as simple as a search engine, and harnessed it to reach billions of people at the same time utilizing search engine optimization (SEO).
With something so smart, so fast, and so vast of an audience base, it would be simple minded to say there is only one right way to market. What I do know is this: each company has THEIR right way to market utilizing social media.
One of the joys of my day is watching a company (large or small) utilizing social media to get their message across in a clear yet creative way. A great example came across my home page of Facebook this week.
Clearasil: known by the actresses on television who magically throw water on their face and feel instantly refreshed. I don't know about you, but when I throw water on my own face, it get's in my eye, all over my sink, and soon I find myself slipping on a puddle on my way to grab a towel for my poor stinging face.
So how does Clearasil make a point on Facebook? The posted this image, which had two great effects.
Firstly, this is an image that displays an awkwardness that MANY people can relate too. Then it uses that feeling of awkwardness to show how you can feel less awkward in your normal life: by using their product. And then finally (and here's the kicker), they included a call to action (CTA) that said "SHARE" if you can relate in the description.
And voila. They have gone from unrealistic TV commercials to creating an experience that their target audience can completely relate too, thus branding themselves and creating an unforgettable experience around their brand. All from one simple post on Facebook.
Because there is no one right way to market on the social medias, companies worldwide are having to harness their creativity to create messages that are relatable to the masses. Social Media Marketing has created a new way of thinking, an amazing opportunity to reach the world, and for some (like me!) a new career path.
So stick with me friends. Let's break apart the vast world of social media, and figure out how it works best for YOUR brand.
