my brother, holden sun, he’s, uh, the one who drove me. he’s a lawyer though, so he went back home for work in the morning.

federal agent miller:  did you see the victim, lillian jo, at or around this event tonight?

federal agent miller:  do you directly know the victim?

no, my dad knew her, i think, or knew of her, at least. he’s also a lawyer

federal agent miller:  what do you do for a living?

oh. i, uh, i dance. well, i used to.

federal agent miller: thank you for cooperating, this is the last question. do you know anyone who may have wanted to harm or kill the victim?

no, like i said, i didn’t know the chick.

He was still pretty much in a shock. His limbs felt numb as his head started to feel airy, threating him to dissociate. August had lost sight of his parents for a hot minute, but there was no way they could have done that to Lillian Jo in such a short span of time… RIGHT?  Ah, Ms. Jo, they had a quick chat not so long ago and now she was—.

A soft collision almost send his soul to the skies and deer eyes looked over at the other, sighing in relief. What did he even expect? Friggin’ Ghostface with a knife amidst the crowd? “You okay?”, he asked, but it was a vague and automatized question, simple social protocol as his eyes scattered into the crowd looking for a suspect that would not come forward of course.

              “W— weird?”, August inquired again and confused, “It’s absolutely terrifying!”

                so,         the         kid,         or,         whatever         (                 he         had         one         of         those         faces         )         was         scared.         she         didn't         have         the         energy         to         mother         anyone,         but         a         woman         did         just         die.         "           right!           right,         terrifying.         uh,         need         a         drink,         then?         something         stronger?         "         she         offered,         the         kindness         not         reaching         her         eyes.         the         caricature         of         a         giving         person,         put         on         for         the         sake         of         dead         woman         she         didn't         know,         and         a         man         she's         only         said         a         dozen         words         to.

                she         didn't         know         lillian         ...         or,         maybe         she         did.         her         father         was         a         lawyer,         too.         she         honestly         couldn't         rememeber         what         she         had         for         breakfast         sometimes,         other         than         oxycodone.         catherine         stepped         out         of         an         officer's         way,         but         the         footfall         was         a         little         too         hard         on         her         bad         knee         and         she         stumbled         a         bit,         right         into         the         solid         body         of         a         person.         turning         quickly,         she         mumbled         an         apology         and         took         in         their         appearance.         she         recognized         them,         vaguely.         in         the         spirit         of         not         looking         absolutely         blasted         on         a         cocktail         of         painkillers         and         peach         schnapps',         she         offered         a         friendly         nod.         "         weird,         huh?         "

        [ cisfemale, she/her, jessica henwick, 23 ] i can't be sure, but i think i just saw CATHERINE SUN drive onto the parkway. don't they know we're not supposed to be driving on that haunted road right now? maybe it has to do with the fact that they're so +PRAGMATIC and -RUTHLESS that makes them feel INDIFFERENT about everything going on. i guess we could also chalk it up to the fact that they're always reminding me of BROKEN MUSIC BOX, SHATTERED MIRRORS, STOLEN PILLS. either way, i hope they get back safely. catherine marie sun is the oldest child and only daughter of real estate agent elizabeth renwick and civil lawyer bennett sun. she has two younger brothers: holden + kieran. bennett and elizabeth were hard on their children, always pushing them to do better. holden became a lawyer like his father, kieran is top of his class in highschool, and catherine was a premier dancer for some fancy ballet company in new york.

this time last year, catherine was on the top of her game. she was up for the lead in the next ballet, until she hurt her knee. in one of the climatic leaps in the show, she tore her acl. the injury was severe, and not only took her out of the show, but required a surgery that would put her out of commision for at least six months. in the company she was in, six months was a lifetime. they gave her a permanent leave of absence, and, off the books, essentially told her to fuck off.

out of a career, the one thing she's wanted since she was a child, catherine returned home to reed, virginia. the grief set in, but the painkillers they gave her for the surgery made everything feel better. she became obsessed with them, but her perfect parents would never allow something like this to come out about their daughter. it was bad enough she ruined her career. so she keeps it a secret, her craving for anything to give her a fix, and her willingness to go down dark paths to get it.
