11 August 1945. The Nakajima Kikka prototype, Japan's first jet-powered aircraft, was damaged on its second flight. The pilot mistakenly believed the RATO units had failed and shut the main engines to abort takeoff. The Kikka was damaged when it ran off the end of the runway.
