for   Saint,   who   thrived   on   the   tension   —   on   the   helplessness,   the   vulnerability,   the   exquisite   sting   of   being   small   in   the   face   of   something   bigger,   stronger,   hungrier.   but   how   cruel   it   is   to   crave   what   your   body   cannot   conjure.   he   could   fake   it.   gods,   he   could   put   on   a   show   —   tremble   real   pretty   in   Sukuna’s   grasp,   gasp   like   a   cornered   thing.   but   what   satisfaction   lies   in   performance,   when   even   he   isn’t   moved?   in   place   of   fear,   there’s   only   this   ⸻   hands   light   and   reverent   slide   up   Sukuna’s   forearm,   trailing   from   elbow   to   wrist.   soft   fingers,   skin-to-skin,   not   from   terror.   he   holds   there   like   a   child,   fingertips   barely   able   to   circle   the   thick   column   of   muscle.   he   could’ve   pretended.   he   could’ve   shivered   in   Sukuna’s   grip,   could’ve   gone   glassy-eyed   and   weak-kneed,   played   the   prey   who   knew   its   place   in   the   jaws   of   a   predator. 

Saint   suspects   Sukuna   would   only   be   bored   by   false   fragility.   or   worse   ⸻   insulted.   hm.   now   there’s   a   thought.   would   he   notice   the   difference?   so   many   angles   to   consider.   behind   the   thick   fan   of   dark   lashes,   Saint’s   eyes   lift,   ruby-red   and   gleaming   —   a   gaze   that   met   that   of   a   godless   king   and   found   it   .   .   .   wanting.   disdain   painted   in   such   bold,   careless   strokes   ⸻   and   yet   it   never   moved   Saint   an   inch   from   his   place.

Saint   shifts   just   enough   to   press   into   the   touch   on   his   throat,   the   gesture   like   a   dare   swaddled   in   perfume.   Sukuna   should   have   known.   he   should   have   expected   Saint   to   tug   at   his   patience   with   silk-gloved   fingers   ⸻   to   give   just   enough,   then   take   back   twice   as   much.     ❝     y’want   tea?     ❞        a   purr   now,   low   and   gleaming   with   defiance.     ❝     ask   me   nicely.        ❞        it   hovers   there,   thick   and   honey-warm   —   a   line   Saint   toed   not   just   willingly,   but   with   a   grin   full   of   venom   and   invitation.   beneath   that   purring   dare,   beneath   the   fan   of   lashes   and   the   red-sliver   gaze,   lives   something   far   too   pleased   not   to   revel.

Saint   don’t   look   at   him   right   away.   He   don’t   need   to.   He   can   feel   Sukuna   behind   him,   heavy   as   storm   pressure,   hoverin’   like   he   got   a   claim   he   ain’t   earned,   breathin’   down   his   neck   like   heat   in   August.   He   exhales   slow,   like   it’s   a   chore,   and   tips   his   head   just   enough   for   that   silk-black   hair   to   spill   down   his   back.   Ruby   stare   draggin’   over   Sukuna   as   if   he   ain’t   impressed   in   the   slightest,   like   he’s   inspectin’   a   pair   of   muddy   boots   someone   tracked   through   his   chapel.   His   smile’s   crooked,   sharp   as   cane   cut   fresh   ⸻   lookin’   all   too   pleased   with   himself.     ❝     mon   dieu   ,    look   at   cha.   Jus’a   sniffin’   ‘round   my   doorstep   like   sum   half-wild   stray.         ❞        There   a   blade   folded   right   in   the   middle’a   sharp   words.   A   laugh,   light   and   dismissive,   rolls   off   his   tongue    (   y'all   know   damn   well   it's   not,   it's   ugly   ).

Saint   drags   the   back   of   his   hand   across   his   mouth,   smearing   a   trace   of   blood   he’s   not   sure   belongs   to   him.   The   silk   clinging   to   his   body’s   torn,   ash-dusted   and   clinging,   hair   wild   and   damp   with   sweat   ⸻   but   his   eyes   ?   Still   burning.    Saint   exhales   slow,   lets   the   tension   settle   thick   in   the   air   before   saying,   soft   and   almost   amused   brushin’   back   strands   of   inky   black   hair.
