Just one of the many great suggestions for overcoming objections of Corporate sponsorship.
The philanthropic dictionary is chock full of terms relevant to charitable fundraising. Vivanista took on the challenge of providing explanations for each applicable term.
A is for Advocacy, B is for Benefactor and C is for Charity!
Black Tie- Formal clothing for a fundraising event, such as a gala. Men wear tuxes (penguin tails and all) while women are required to be as uncomfortable as humanly possible, though corsets and smelling salts are no longer necessary. While usually floor length gowns are the most appropriate for galas, edgy fashionistas such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Madonna have been known to show up in shorter, cocktail length dresses, paving the way for perhaps a more casual definition of black tie. Heels are not optional.

What’s a Vivanista exactly? It sounds like a woman’s name, but it’s actually an anagram for the different characteristics that represent this organization that supports causes through fundraising and event best practices.

What do you get when a bunch of seasoned fundraising pros sit down for an evening to have a little Twitter chat about WORST practices? Believe this: it was a steam valve that needed to release a little pressure! Vivanista founder Layne Gray got to tweet and eavesdrop on the best of the worst of what happens in fundraising, and we’ve collected the most enlightening bits for you here. These are actual #fundchat tweets, edited only for clarity, presented here for your entertainment and astonishment. For some, just be sure you don’t have a mouthful of liquid when you read them.
Who’s the Most Generous?
Did you know that 89% of US households give to charity with the average contribution being $1,620. The largest private foundation for giving is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation while the largest corporate grant maker is the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. One of the most interesting things about the Summit – and Vivanista overall – is its audience crossover. While volunteer fundraisers and organizers will make up the larger portion of attendees, nonprofit workers will also strongly represent, making the Summit one of the few events in the year that recognize how much overlap there is between the needs and goals of determined volunteers and the needs and goals of those who work daily at nonprofits.
