Once Mönchengladbach (Northrine-Westphalia/Germany) was one of the hotspots of the german textile industry. Since textile production was more an more relocated to asian countries many factories closed and the unemployment rate grew constantly. To the present day the city is struggeling with the loss of its most important industry. Nevertheless many old buildings from the industrial age still characterize the cityscape, giving Mönchenglabdach some unique athmosphere, something between brickstones an tenement blocks.
