This is a quiet, frightened, insignificant old man who has been nothing all his life - who has never had recognition - or his name in the newspapers. Nobody knows him. Nobody quotes him. Nobody seeks his advice after seventy-five years. Gentlemen, that’s a very sad thing to be nothing. A man like this needs to be quoted, to be listened to, to be quoted just once - very important to him…He wouldn’t really lie. But perhaps he made himself believe that he heard those words and recognized the boy’s face.
12 Angry Men (1957) dir. Sidney Lumet

some thoughts on zootopia
[this contains spoilers]
the main theme of the movie is discrimination. the animals are picked on because of their species. an example is: in the movie, the main character gets called a bunny, which is a “slur” and she says, ‘it’s ok for a rabbit to call another rabbit a bunny, but not ok for someone of another species to call us that’ and I think the directors were alluding to when people of one race call another a racial slur and defend themselves by saying ‘but your people call you this’.
the movie has some pretty heavy scenes, such as when a fox cub is bullied by other kids, and they shove a muzzle on him. (no lie, it’s pretty intense- I almost cried)
there are other really powerful messages, i.e. keep trying new things, always be open, don’t let your parents rain on your parade, etc..
However, Zootopia has one theme that sort of completes everything- not all things turn out fine and dandy. you see, the main character has grown up her whole life dreaming of one day becoming a cop. she thinks that when she grows up, she’ll be able to do anything she wants in Zootopia. this is where capitalism comes in. on her first day in the big city, she is crushed by the attitudes of everyone there; they don’t believe she can be a cop, they just categorize her (#2) and tell her Zootopia’s greatness is a lie, and she should just go back to where she came from. but she doesn’t let this dishearten her, and keeps on trying to be the best she can be. now you might be thinking, didn’t she just say the theme is not everything is fine and dandy? well, yes I did, but the cool thing is, Disney undos its theme. (after all, this is a kid’s movie, right?) the movie ends with the main character’s triumph, to encourage kids to follow their dreams when the rest of the world tells you your dream stinks.
in conclusion, I think everyone should see this movie, not only because of it humor and cute animals, but also because of its messages, and themes that relate to our society. it’s definitely not a waste of your money, and it’d do the whole world a lot of good if everyone saw it.

I love borders. August is the border between summer and autumn; it is the most beautiful month I know. Twilight is the border between day and night, and the shore is the border between sea and land. The border is longing; when both have fallen in love but still haven’t said anything. The border is to be on the way. It is the way that is the most important thing.
