Koromo: Jurgen Lehl’s Fabrics
photographated by Yuriko Takagi
Treville ,Tokyo 1997 ,144 pages
euro 80,00
German designer Jurgen Lehl celebrates the effortless variety and randomness of nature in his splendid hand-woven silk, cotton, and wool fabrics. Philosophically committed to breaking the tedium and uniformity of machinery-produced textiles, Lehl creates sumptuous fabrics that are alive with the understanding texture of the human hand. The photographs by Yuriko Takagi are as breathtaking as the designs themselves. Full-page color and black-and-white plates capture the depth and simplicity of Lehl’s design, yet become their own works of art by creating swirling abstractions of color, shape, pattern, and volume. Lovely to look at and thoughtful to contemplate, this is a book for anyone who appreciates the manifestation of beauty.
