Why they are similar? Post 1: Technology and television for babies and toddlers Arthur, N.(2010,June 1).Technology and television for babies and toddlers. retrieved from http://web.a.ebscohost.com.libproxy.unitec.ac.nz post 2: Is technology good for little kids Rosen,M.Is technology good for little kids?. These posts are similar because they both mentioned that too much technology can cause toddlers to be obese later in life and also struggle to pay attention. The first post says that children get influenced to eat unhealthy food when they constantly see commercials on TV and this will lead to obesity, I believe this is true because I can relate, whenever I watch television it’s always junk food that’s advertised and it makes me crave for it. Both posts mention that children under two years old should not be on technology at all because they don’t benefit from it, I agree with this, toddlers under two should just be bonding with their parents and playing with other kids, by doing this they will understand more about life through their own experience and will be more active, if they don’t move around and constantly sit for long hours with devices that could also lead to obesity. According to Post two, researchers checked up on children until they were teenager’s and they found that the children who had watched educational TV instead of entertainment TV got better grades in school because they cared more about achieving and they read more books. This shows that technology can be good if children use it for educational purposes, I think parents need to make sure they check what their children are watching.
Why they are different? Post 1: Generation ipad: Could device hurt toddler’s development? ABC News (2013) Generation ipad: Could device hurt toddlers development?. Retrieved from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrQhmcPrhFw Post 2: Does technology hinder or help toddlers learning? Roxby,P.(2013,April 19)Does technology hinder or help toddlers learning?. Retrieved from http://www.bbc.com/news/health-22219881 These posts are different because in post one a mother decided took away her children’s screen devices for a month to see how they act within that time and straight away her three children were playing, socialising and arguing with each other, Another test was also done on different children to see how distracted they get when they are on technology, a teacher gave four children ipad’s in then called out their names and asked them questions but neither of them replied back but when she took the ipad’s away from them they were able to play with toys and socialise at the same time. I feel like this would convince parents to take away their children’s devices but I think that’s unnecessary because technology can be educational if parents limited how long their children can spend time on it. Post two advices parents to not worry and that it’s good for toddlers to interact with the screen because it will help them learn faster and they will make fewer mistakes. I agree with this because it would convince parents to think more about the positive impacts technology have on toddlers as media is mainly focused on the negatives nowadays.
