#givingtuesday In honor of Womenst the Well-Broward/ @watwbroward 5th anniversary, our goal is to raise $50,000 during this year's Giving Tuesday campaign. For the past 5 years, Women at the Well-Broward has: •Provided over 500 fresh start kits with business attire, and personal hygiene items. •Prevented homelessness. •Provided resume writing services and mock interviews for 87 incarcerated women prior to the release to their Broward County community. •Provided quality self-help skills and employment opportunities for 121 returning citizens •Link businesses with potential resources and qualified candidates, while focusing on reducing recidivism in Broward County. Additionally, due to Covid 19, prisons are issuing early release orders for incarcerated people “without [providing] adequate transportation, support services, or housing once they get out. Our hope is to expand support and funding for our NewWoman reentry program, which helps female returning citizens overcome the multitude of barriers faced upon release from incarceration. 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻 “When formerly incarcerated women have access to social support programs, such as job training, food assistance, and health care, recidivism rates fall, keeping women, mothers and daughters out of prison and their communities safer.” 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻 We realize this is a big goal but believe that we can succeed with your help. Our 2018/2019 "Get Focused Stay Focused" College Readiness Program closed out today. Our Teen Girls completed a year-long course that helped identify their interests and life goals, discovered a career aligned to those interests and goals, and developed an educational pathway to prepare for that career. Without this scholarship, I would have had to take out a loan, and when I graduated high school, my goal was to graduate from college debt-free. The Koch Scholars Program has helped me socially, personally and academically. This program has taught me many different things, but the most important information I received was to have a principled mindset. The program has also taught me how to display integrity when nobody is around, along with teaching me how to challenge myself and find better ways to remove barriers to opportunity and help people improve their lives. I also learned that no matter how big or famous you get in the world, never forget where you came from and to always give back. Not only has UNCF assisted me socially, financially, and personally, they have had such a great impact on me to do better academically. UNCF has given me the motivation and determination to increase my GPA and to do my best in class. For that I am forever grateful.
