a wide smile stayed fixed on arielle’s lips, nodding her head a little. ❛ of course, always happy to share. and it sounds like you could really use it. ❜ teeth sinking into her lower lip, arielle began skimming over the most recent passage in her journal, half listening to wes. realizing after a moment that he hadn’t finished after his um, arielle’s eyebrow rose as she glanced over at him. ❛ so um? ❜ she questioned with a soft smile. ❛ i was listening that time, ❜ she teased just before locking her phone and setting it aside, reaching for a fry. ❛ i was going to go home and see if there were any good jake gyllenhaal, james franco, or ryan gosling movies on netflix, want to come with? oh! maybe jared leto. or we could try all of the above. they are all such good actors, and you know, really fun to look at. and i don’t work tomorrow so i am very willing to netflix it up all night ❜ arielle spoke with a soft laugh, head tilted slightly as she finished the fry in her hand.

a small blush painted wes’ cheeks at his own words repeated by his friend. he smiled softly around the fry he just took a bite of, nodding at her proposition of a movie night tonight with her. “that sounds fun,” he replied before asking the approaching waiter if he could have a glass of apple juice–– his favorite, after capri-suns, of course. “just so long as we don’t watch the, um–– the notebook. i’m not... the biggest fan of that one. and i don’t cry at the end, so i always feel heartless.” after grabbing another fry, wes tried to think of the movies he hasn’t seen with arielle, which turns out to be few and far between because of the number of times they’ve stayed up all night watching all the movies they could find. “how about... instead of netflix, we go to a rental place and we each pick out two, and–– and then we can do that tonight? does that sound okay?”

          wes was simply TOO SWEET. it was the reason why thea couldn’t bring herself to make a move on him back at the party, the risk of hurting his feelings one she wasn’t willing to take. the reason why she always stopped flirting as SOON as he looked too uncomfortable. wes was one of the friends she most enjoyed spending time with, and she cared for him enough to ignore his red cheeks every once in a while and give him a break from the teasing for once. ‘ NAH, don’t worry about it. thanks, though — that’s really nice of you. you’re the BEST, wes. ’

wes hid the s u r p r i s e from shifting his expression when words of teasing and flirtations DIDN’T make their way to wes’ ears. hey, at least his cheeks will be paler than they ever have around his friend. for now. oh, and there they go, feeling the heat against his cheeks as the compliment reached the space between them. “i’m not... just–– i just want you to be able to have what that squirrel stole from you, yeah?” he smiled at her, another small laugh bubbling up at the thought of thea fighting with a squirrel, something he kind of wishes he could’ve seen for himself. of course he would’ve helped her fight it off, though. of course. “well, if you don’t want a croissant, want to go with me so i can get something for myself?”

“eh i dunno, he was a rude customer. him and his buddies said some stuff and then they left without tipping. which is fine, it happens. i’m just feeling extra agitated today so why not. might be fun.” she shrugged, realizing the more she ran the idea through her head the less practical it sounded. but such things were so typical from the brunette, she didn’t dismiss her reckless will just yet. gracie smiled as the blonde spoke, his innocence beaming through his expression. “vanilla, hm.” she repeated before taking a seat beside him. “you didn’t really strike me as a prankster anyway.” she said with a little smile. “so…” she started, in route to change the subject rather than invite him on her little adventure, “why this spot of the park? i think it’s nicer over there.” she said kindly as she motioned to the bench across the way that she wandered over from.

“oh...” wes replied, the single syllable being his usual go to response, since spoken words were never his FORTE compared to written words. he tried again, not wanting her to think he wasn’t interested in finally talking to his friend from across the sidewalk. “um–– how do you know where they live, then?” he asked, the practical side of his brain wondering how she’ll do it. “unless you... know the... jerks.” wes gave her a small nod and a shrug that said ‘what’re ya’ gonna do’ because he really was quite the vanilla young boy. “hey!” he squawked, wide eyes looking around to see if anyone glanced over at him. he continued, despite the red tint of his cheeks. “i could–– i can pull pranks, thank you very much.” a small laugh bubbled up, despite himself, because he knew that statement wasn’t completely true, unless the prank was pulling a petal off a flower from their garden. and wes doubted the boys she spoke of had a garden. “hm, i think i–– i just like the view of the pond watchers. it’s–– i’m kind of a–– i’m a people watcher? and people usually... sit on the side facing the pond so i sit where i can see the people, and–– i know it sounds dumb.”

wide brown eyes softened the moment she heard wes, a small laugh slipping past her lips as arielle nodded. ❛ of course, silly. i’m sorry i didn’t hear you the first time. you don’t have to ask though. you’re always welcome here. ❜ picking at the H A R D L Y touched fries she’d grabbed on her way off of her shift, arielle pushed the plate towards wes. ❛ help yourself, ❜ she offered, picking her phone up from the table and turning her attention back towards it.

a small smile touched wes’ lips at the go ahead to join arielle at their now shared table. it was extremely busy today at the stardew cafe, so when wes saw the offering of fries pushed toward him, he couldn’t have been more g r a t e f u l. “thanks, i–– it’s so busy... and i’m just–– so ready for fries...” his hungry stomach growled as if solidifying his desire for some of the best fries in town. “so, um––” he began to say, but saw her look toward her phone, and didn’t want to bother her, so he decided to just leave it at that and grab another fry from her plate.

wes squinted his eyes at his friend in c o n f u s i o n before his lips began to curve into a small smile. he couldn’t help it–– the words leaving thea’s mouth were something of a comedy show. the funny story almost –– ALMOST –– gave him a great enough distraction from thea taking her over shirt off and tossing it in the trash nearest the two. “do you–– ahem,” he tried to cover up the small amounts of laughter still fluttering his system, will simultaneously trying to control the blush he knew was occurring as well. “do you want me to get you a new croissant?”

gracie stared at the blonde for a moment, waiting for him to reply to the nonsense she interrupted him with. she nodded, clarifying that yes she was talking to him. “i agree.” she replied once he answered her ‘very serious’ question. “cupcakes are always good, but i really wanna throw some eggs at this guys house. or actually anyone’s house. i just feel like doing something, you know?” she asked, shrugging as she realized that she said. “i guess that’s kinda weird. have you ever egged anyone’s house before?” she asked, genuinely curious this time.

an unfamiliar voice from a very familiar face caused a spark of EXCITEMENT in wes’ chest. he never thought he’d actually get a c h a n c e to talk to the brunette, only see her from across the cement walk way of his, and apparently her, favorite spot in the park. “m––me? oh, i––” a tint of rose colored his pale cheeks. “i think–– i mean cupcakes are–– they’re always good.”
