This year has been really strange. Looking back, I see that I was mainly just recovering from the past two years; a long roller coaster ride that just kept dipping over and over. I spent a lot of time laying in bed. I didn't listen to much music, but I made some. I'm so grateful to my beautiful family that remains, to my musical family in Velah, and all the lovely, amazing people that have supported me through it all.

So here’s a proposition:

I’m going to be self-publishing a zine. An art zine, I guess.

Fiction, non-fiction, drawings, comics, photos, music, everything. Ruminations on a theme.

I increasingly find myself surrounded by incredibly creative people and for whatever idiot personal reasons, I feel…

This morning I was walking Loki and some little girls came up and said, "tenemos a un peluche como él en casa." It made me think about this song and video.

"Peluche" is five years old and I remember feeling like such a total novice making it. I could barely play guitar and I felt soooo uncomfortable about my singing. Looking back on it now, it wasn't that bad and there are many things I really enjoy about it.

Of course, having the magically talented Alberto Cerriteño make the video was probably the best part. He totally understood what I was thinking about in terms of a "peluche" with his own life story that regular people can't see. 

It makes me realize that a lot of my creative output is motivated by my Mexican heritage and upbringing, and through that lens, driven by the power of myth.

I had no understanding of what that actually meant. 2012 had many more, much harder lessons in store. As a result, I don't think the same way, I don't feel the same way, I can't write the same music, and I am certainly not walking through the world on the same path. "Be Here Now" may sound like a half-baked platitude from a bygone era, but at the core it means keep your attention on the present moment. It is literally fleeting and precious. Right now I am stronger, better, smarter, and wiser than at any time before in my personal history. And so are you.
