nosebleed breaks car crashing from early 00s doujin label 日本國民 (Nihonkokumin), wacked-out full-throttle otaku ‘ardkore terrorists (and an early stomping ground of Sharpnel and m1dy, if you’re keeping track at home). full-metal rough-around-the-edges minimalist DAW assault mastered like total shit before breaking into wavering, melancholy anisong (or visual novel song?) melody, and back again. bare witness to m1dy doing the same sort of thing on a mecha-miami-bass backing, or Tabemono, DJ Nice Shot and m1dy taking the same shlocky-but-lovable visual novel theme and alternatively making gurgling, banging techno, rough+melodic jungle, or martial New Beat out of the fucking thing. nihonkokumin were beautifully batshit, but there’s very little on them left on the internets anymore*—unsurprising, though, given the built-in ephemerality of the doujin scene. have to give thanks to my friend ryan for giving me a flash drive of their discography last year, and especiallllly to Allkore Riot Controller and English-language doujin encyclopedia Ian SBZ for uploading the now-dead torrent that was the source of said flash drive, for uploading this DVD of a Nihonkokumin live event (you can hear fragment’94 in it too hehe), and for generally being a font of all knowledge about this stuff.
