"Zero Gear" Addendum

Feel like the last drawing is a good place to slip in some extra context for Novakane. Got a bunch of details to get through, so the next few posts of this kind are also gonna be a mouthful, sorry. As we definitely do not know, Novakane (real name Genevieve DuPixen) is a drow currently affiliated with a small-time gang known as the Outrider's Covenant (The OC). Canada, her country of origin, was the primary backdrop for the 6YGW, and during this time, her father was murdered by a rival Elf family, who dabbled in bladesmithing similarly to them. This was around the period where industrialized firearms were rapidly becoming favored over swords and flintlocks, and interest in manufacturing these weapons independently was spiking. To make a long story short, her father turned up dead during the height of the civil war. Heartbroken, she and her mother, Stefanie DuPixen, suspected foul play. After mercilessly cutting said family and their associates down by the dozens, they fled south to America. Although the newly Drow-controlled government would have overlooked their crimes at a federal level, they preferred to wash their hands of any more bad blood and sleepless nights. Novakane currently helps traffick arms to the covenant, and helps suppress any opposition they may face, so long as she gets a reward out of it.

"Zero Gear" "A near century ago, Canada's six year grudge war claimed many lives. despite being admitted as legitimate members of society, many drow felt underappreciated for their military service which had spanned an entire millenia by that point. Countless generations were carelessly bred merely to serve their elven kings and queens as meat shields against Human conquest, largely to no benefit, be it social or financial. Due to this, racial tensions came to a head, leading to a clash between drow and Canada's elven government. quickly spiralling into unchecked civillians of both races. The government was soon toppled, and France relinquished control of Canada. Despite their bloodstained heritage, combat and (?)" "...Celebrated, core components of a drow's identity. Though rare, enjoying the company of a drow devoid of her armaments is an unmistakable sign of tr(?)"

Recent painting of Novakane. Not sure I'll be posting things linearly while I catch up. I dunno know what's more eerie for her design: blacked out eyes, or pupils that glow in the dark? Probably depends on the dramatic needs of the illustration. As for whatever thug she's getting paid to kill... That gaze probably rings hollow in any case.
