Hannibal smiled up at the stars. “If you wanted me dead, you should have left me in the water.”

His voice was scratchy but so was Will’s. “No, that’s not what I want.”

“A baptism then?”

A birth to a new life, washed free from sin?

“Sure.”

Will pulled them off that cliff, so high, then pulled them from that water, so cold. They now travel alone, sailing to safety and freedom. In the cradle of the ocean, they examine and nurture each other, and their feelings.

One of the things that truly compels me at times about Hannibal and Will is that yes their dynamic starts with Hannibal being the aggressor and manipulating and taking advantage of Will when he's sick and framing him to try to tidy up what he considers to be a loose end

But when it's revealed to everyone else that Will was framed and he finally gets released from prison- it's Will that becomes the persuer in their relationship. It's Will that returns to him over and over, even when Hannibal pulls away and lashes out. It's Will who follows him and hunts him down. It's Will who keeps escalating their game. It's Will who makes the choice to return to Hannibal years after he gives himself up to police.

And I think the reason that Hannibal's layers of masks and various personas crumble so easily around Will is that his entire adult life Hannibal has been the predator. Hannibal has always been the hunter. The pursuer.

Hannibal has spent his entire adult life creating an existence that he is fully in control of and suddenly this wickedly intelligent, witty, charming, attractive person begins to force his way in past all of that. For the first time in his life someone has seen glimpses the worst parts of him and isn't scared off. For the first time someone wants to see more of who he truly is.

It's now Hannibal who's being hunted.

Something that makes manipulative Will Graham so good, in my opinion, is that it's nothing like Hannibal's manipulativeness.

His manipulation technique is completely different, making it clear that this isn't something he took from Hannibal.

And what is his manipulation? Emotional. Hannibal focuses on psychological manipulation the most - messing with people's heads. But Will? Will pierces their hearts.

When he was crying to Alana and Hannibal asking for their help? That was him manipulating their emotions and their want for his friendship and trust. When he was trying to catch Hannibal he seduced him. He even does it with Matthew. He knows Matthew is interested in him so he plays into that and uses Matthew's crush to get him to kill someone.

Will is primarily an emotional manipulator and I love that for him.
