while it was nice to have an extended weekend , it was a little boring too . everyone spent the holiday with their family which had left her sitting at home alone . it wasn’t that filiz didn’t have ideas on how to keep herself busy however , once saturday had rolled around she couldn’t help but feel relieved . relieved because finally they could get to the brunch plans they had made weeks ago .
“ so ! “ brunette leans forward a little to pick up the mug with cappuccino in it . “ i won’t lie , i’m excited to hear some thanksgiving tea … “ grinning , sheepishly , not usually one to be so brazen yet lead by the thrill of getting out of the house . @corneliastarters
as much as she loved being around her family on thanksgiving, being around them for too long always wore her out. from having to talk to just about everyone right down to having to deal with drama from two of her cousins, it was because of that, that she almost always tried her best to get in and get out. an hour or two tops was how long she opted to stay. "where should i start?" she asked, laughing a bit.
"next time i have to be around family, you should tag along. see the drama in person." she noted. "so apparently, according to my cousin, her soon to be ex is already married to another. has a family too but forgot to tell her."

it got a little tiresome doing the same thing day in, day out, but he wouldn't complain - he got to do what he loved while making enough money to keep a roof over his head. the sandwich shop had been quiet most of the day, a few regulars had come by, their orders he knew by heart. he'd been alone for the last ten minutes, prepping a few more to go when he heard the bell to the door go when opened. " please tell me you've come with gossip and an order. i've been here approximately three hours and four minutes and it feels like at least double that. " @corneliastarters
"that depends on the gossip. local, political or celebrity gossip?" she asked, raising an eyebrow as she walked over to the counter. when it came to gossip, there were always a few types of gossip. local in town gossip, gossip from the political world and then celebrity gossip. the last one she didn't pay that much attention to. at least not all the time that was. "there is some gossip going around in the political world. as for celebrity gossip? i don't pay too much attention to that."
@corneliastarters / location ; our song
Robin sat on the counter filing through the latest batch of records brought in by some elderly woman looking for some extra cash. As expected it was full of out of date polka, Barbra Streisand, christmas albums, and of course the standard Whipped Cream and Other Delights by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass. " Do you ever stop and wonder what of our modern life will stand the test of time ? " she asked aloud to the only other person in the shop with her. " I mean, like music wise. Do you think that in like thirty years, we'll be seeing like Born to Die or Currents in every music store clearance bin ? " Man, she really needs to stop coming into work high.
"considering that i've already seen some cd's from the early 2000's in the clearance section already, i'd say yeah." it was bound to happen at some point. at some point in time, their music would be an oldie as it was called for music from the 60's, 70's and even the 80's. "either that, or it could end up in a museum in the future. just think about it, someone puts everything we've used in a museum." that thought alone would be weird. " like from music, to phones and computers. all of that."
"I definitely think I'm leaning more that way myself. I kind of feel like the current trend just raided Mary-Kate and Ashley's Olsen's closet from the early 2000's. I don't like this whole feeling old thing." Even if she was barely thirty, seeing trends come back around was maddening. "Yes, thank you!" Brooklyn chuckled ecstatically. "That was definitely one of the worst. I blame the Disney Channel days for that one. They could throw anything on our favorite characters and we'd flock to it. Even such atrocities." Glancing down at Emira's choices, Brooklyn smiled again. "I love the colors you picked out. Great choices." With a small shrug she held up a dress she had been eyeing with uncertainty. "I have an event to go to soon and I was kind of considering this one. But I don't know-- what do you think. Would pink flush me out too much?"
"oh they did. they absolutely raided their closet from the early 2000's." how else would certain trends from them be coming back? and some of them was something she truly didn't need to be reminded about at all. not one bit. to her, it would be nice if people just left certain clothing tends in the past. "looking back at it now, the whole skirt and jeans thing was horrible. i just hope that trend stays in the past. it's the one we really don't need back." she replied. looking down at the clothes she picked out, she smiled a bit. "thank you. with the holidays coming up, i figured i'd get some new clothes in my closet." mainly for christmas and new years eve. "pink? i'd say no to that. what about red? red would be a good choice."
halloween had barely passed and joe’s mind had jumped to christmas already . while october had been so busy , the detective had promised himself to make more time to get in the holiday spirit this time . the store wasn’t busy yet – the early birds out to catch worms probably all sleeping today after a long spooky night ( oh , how much he wished he was one of those but his body refused lay-ins past 8am ) . yet , that didn’t make the first christmas shopping any easier . “ what would a four year old like ? “ half assuming that it was an employee in the aisle with him , joe did not look over right away . “ are all of these toys fitting ? “ @corneliastarters
with the holiday season starting, it meant starting on her christmas shopping. something she both hated yet loved at the same time. making her way into the store, she headed over to the toy section. she knew her little cousins would want toys over clothes for christmas. that was a given. besides, what kid wanted clothes as a present? hearing a voice, emira looked at the man who had asked the question. "well that depends, boys usually like legos, toy cars anything like that. as for girls, dress up clothes, barbies and baby dolls. every kid is different though with what they like when it comes to toys."
@corneliastarters
Where: Style.
Who: Open to all!
"I don't know whether to be depressed or excited that my middle school wardrobe seems to be all the rage again," Brooklyn chirped mindlessly to the person beside her while she rifled through Style's latest selection of jeans. All they were missing were some of the doodles she used to draw on them-- which made her mother livid. And they were oddly more conservative now. Low rise that covered slightly more skin. "If only I had saved my Doc Martens. I don't know that I can allow myself to shell out money for them again," she added with a snicker. Letting go of the jeans, her bright gaze rose from the distressed denim to shoot the other a smile. "Find anything good? I feel like I have to buy something with such a good sale going on."
"i say depressed." the fact that clothes from years ago were coming back was something even emira didn't think would happen. there were some styles that were just, a huge no to her. some that shouldn't even see the day of light again. "i'm honestly praying that no one brings back the whole wearing skirts with jeans. that style right there was horrible. how it became a trend was beyond me." picking out a few pairs of pants a few shirts, she draped them over her arm before tunrnig to look at her. "i found a few pairs of pants an a few shirts. what about you? find anything good?"
Valerie shrugged, shaking her head no. There had been a time in Barcelona where she had had the opportunity to try the pastry, but time had slipped her hands and instead she had been given some churro-flavored drink. She could recall the taste of cinnamon sharp in her tongue, overbearing. "I think this might be my first official fair" she announced, as if that piece of information would provide any clarity to her previous statement whatsoever. Her mother had never been one for festivals and street fairs and Valerie hadn't learned what she had been missing up until that afternoon. She considered the other's words for a moment, nodding along and taking out a $20 bill. "In that case, let's get them both. I need the whole experience so if there's anything else you think I should try— I'm taking notes"
"your first official fair?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. as she once heard, there's a first for everything. and fairs like this were included in that. coming to one for the first time could be exciting to some. "have you been on any rides yet?" she asked as she looked over at her. if she had, then it would be a good thing. riding a few rides and then eating was a better option compared to eating and then going on a few. "both it is. you're going to love them both, i'm sure of it." hearing her last comment, she thought about it for a moment. "honestly. most of the food here is really good. they have a lot of options too. i know they have a food truck here that sells pizza for example. and another one sells classics like french fries and hot dogs."
Unbidden, an image of the vampires from Twilight surfaced at the comment of perfect vampires, laughter coating her words as she commented in agreement. "Too perfect, like porcelain. Way hard to replicate in cookie form. Zombies work way more in our favor." With their skills, Jenny didn't even want to contemplate trying to make anything like Draculaura if she couldn't even get the zombie cookie right. As Emira came up with an explanation for why her cookies were okay in a similar vein that Jenny had done for her moments earlier, Jenny couldn't help but laugh. "That's true. Though I'm thinking we might be doing something wrong if our cookies are coming with rationalizations."
"also depends on the vampire. if you go with twilight, you're gonna be stuck trying to make sure they sparkle." to her, a vampire that sparkled was….not cool. it went against what vampires were. if anyone even liked that, then she truly would judge them. vampires didn't sparkle in the sun, they burned. plain and simple. "maybe we should start over. and male a new one." that would help in the long run. making a new one all together. at leat then the new one would actually come out right compared to the ones they have now.
"Right? You'd think more people would follow that line of logic, but the vomit I walked around earlier would beg to differ." Luckily, James hadn't recently eaten when she'd spotted it, otherwise she might have added onto it. "You've got a game plan though, which I respect and applaud." Her hands came up in a silent applause to accompany her words. "So to answer your question - definitely both."
"some people never learn." going on a ride after eating was a no. a huge no. didn't people know by now it only made one sick? if some wanted to get sick after that, then that was on them. emira though always made sure to not eat until after she went on a few rides. at least then, she wouldn't get sick. "always have a plan when it comes to festivals. at least, that's what i tell myself." have a plan and stick to it. "both it is then."
Valerie eyed the menu items pointed at her as if being talked to in another language. Ever a diligent creature, she ached to help the other make her decision, she was incapable of doing so. "I don't know if I'm the best person to help you make this life-changing decisions" she jested, "I'm afraid I've never tried any, not like this anyway" she recalled having some type of alcohol that was churro flavored at some party that left a cinnamon aftertaste in the tip of her tongue for the rest of the evening. She looked back at the menu, making up her own mind about what type of festival-themed beverage to order before returning her attention to the other. "Both seems like a wise decision— what is an elephant ear again? Because it sounds barbaric."
"you've never tried an elephant ear or a churro?" she asked, raising ane eyebrow as she looked over at her. those were the best parts of festivals. the food in general was the best part. "if i get an elephant ear, you're more than welcome to have some." she said. with how big it was, she couldn't eat it all by herself. emira could remember getting one every time they came to festivals like this. it was the one reason why she loved coming in the first place. "it's a big piece of light and airy fried dough topped with cinnamon and sugar. it's really good. " a popular festival food too.
"A deformed zombie's not bad. It is a reanimated corpse, right? Corpses are all kinds of mutilated and messed up, so it works out in your favor." She chimed encouragingly, showing off her own zombie cookie. She had gone for what she thought was a simple design, simply changing the typical green to blue in favor of the character she was referencing, and it was going okay, until she did the eyes. Rather than two white circles at the center, they instead resembled running eggs as the whites dripped off the sides of the cookie from the center point, a mistake made thanks to her tampering with her icing, damaging its consistency. "Mine's eyes fell out."
"true. it would probably look more acurate to a zombie that looks too perfect." zombies weren't even perfect to begin with. thats what made them what they were. "at least it's not a vampire cookie that i'm making. vampires are way too perfect." zombies in a way were probably more easy to decorate than others. at least with zombies, they didn't need to be perfect. at the mention of the others eyes falling out, she raised an eyebrow as she looked over at her. "don't zombie eyes fall out technically? or pop out? i've seen that happen in a few movies before."
As a personal lover of carnival foods, James was more than happy to push Emira towards the 'choosing both' option in this instance (despite personally preferring churros). There was just one tiny, insignificant little detail that was stopping her from doing just that. "You're not planning to do the scrambler or the tilt-a-whirl or anything after this, right? Cause that would be a lethal combo."
"nope. i don't. not for a half hour." she had already gone on a few rides already. and she knew she wouldn't be going on any more until she ate. after all, she was hungry too. "i've gone on a few rides already. taking a break and getting food is very much needed." hearing james mention the tilt a whirl, she looked over at her.. "oh god, going on the tilt-a-whirl after eating is the one thing someone shouldn't do."
where: cornelia street fall festival status: closed to @winglcss (emira) "is it just me or should there be like a haunted house or something?" it's something that has been bugging omar since the moment they'd stepped foot into the festival. all the other attractions make sense, apple bobbing and corn mazes are typical fall staples to any good festival. but where was the scary? the halloween of it all? "haunted houses have been a thing since 1915 and nobody thought to include one now." he stops, hands in pockets, before giving himself a small shake. "not that it matters i just think it's weird to not have one, you know?"
"there should be." she agreed. she was used to going to haunted houses and haunted hayrides around this time of year. every year, she would go. either alone or with someone else. "i think they should have at least done a haunted hayride for the night time." it was a shame in the end that no one had thought of that. "we could always go to one later on if you want." she suggested. if wanted her to go with him though. if he wanted to go with someone else, she wouldn't argue on that. "i get it. it is weird. around this time of year, you would think they would have one here. "

the last time she had even been at a festival had been years ago. back during her college years, or maybe a year after she got out was the last time. "i'm thinking an elephant ear or churros." she spoke as she looked at the menu that was there. while she loved churros. elephant ears had been a favorite of hers for the longest time. every time she came to one of these things as a kid, she could remember sharing one with her mom. "or maybe both. getting both won't hurt."
"Okay, not too seem totally creepy, but I was also trying to do a zombie and a mummy." She opted not to admit that the reason behind that was because she designing her favorite characters from Monster High. "Spooky, right?" She laughed. "What's going wrong with yours?"
"a little bit. zombies have been pretty popular though for the past few years." she pointed out. at her second question, she looked down at her own cookies before looking back at her. "mine sort of look deformed." she replied. not a complete lie. it did look deformed. "i'm starting to think it would have been easier to make a jack skellington cookie."
