How to go to any date in general tumblr tags
just figured this out and i’m super excited~~~
So you know when you’re reading through general tumblr tags and the url looks like this (this is the url going one page back in that tag, from today, 3/30/2013):
http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/one%20direction?before=1364690010
Turns out the number at the end means something, and can be changed so you can go to the general tumblr tags for any date you specify.
For instance, if I want to go the one direction tag as of January 1, 2012, I would go to http://www.timestampgenerator.com, enter the date, and this number would be generated:
1325406095
I replace the number in the above url with this number, to get this url:
http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/one%20direction?before=1325406095
And now I can see everything people tagged with “one direction” around the time of January 1, 2012. If you care about the exact timing, remember to specify your time zone (in GMT +/-x) and take note of the time zone that shows up by default on posts in dashboard mode (in xkit, you can set the time zone to your own with the ‘timestamp’ extension, other scripts and extensions may work differently).
What this number means (roughly) is the number of seconds that have passed since midnight January 1, 1970, GMT. It is also called Unix time and is a standard way of calculating timestamps for anything that is unix-based.
****ETA*****
Since a lot of people are finding this post from google, I thought I’d add this now that I’ve figured it out: how to go back in time on your tumblr dashboard. The first thing you need to know is what a post id is. A post id is the number that is part of every tumblr post url, and is (I assume) a count of the total number of posts which have been made on tumblr ever at the time the post was made.
For this post, the post id is 46716818218. One thing that is important to know about tumblr is that while you CAN change the date shown for a post on your tumblr theme, you CANNOT change the post id - it is static even if you edit everything else about the post (even if you change your url, the post id will be the same, even if you delete the text after the post id in the url, your browser will still find the post). This also means if you create a post today, tag it and backdate it to a date a year ago, it won’t show up in tags for a year ago (because posts in tags are organized by post id).
If I wanted to see what was on my dashboard at the time I originally made this post, I would enter this url:
https://www.tumblr.com/dashboard/2/46716818218
If I want to go to my dashboard for a date I don’t have a post for, I would first use the method described above to get a timestamp for that date. Then, I would go to a tumblr tag that is at least reasonably popular, pick a post in that tag from time of the timestamp I’ve chosen, and use that post’s post id in my dashboard url.
USEFUL SITES FOR ROLEPLAYERS
Thought I'd make a list of some useful websites for those of us who enjoy roleplaying and what have you here on Tumblr and whatnot.
roleplay formatter: Made by the awesome @rpclefairy. I honestly can't recommend this one enough. Great for adding color, changing the font size, and the whole shebang with bold + italics + underline + strikethrough. 10/10 always use
fsymbols + emojipedia: These are both great for making your tags fancy and whatnot.
alt codes: This is genuinely great for teaching you how to make the symbols with your keyboard for everyday use so there's that. It's especially useful if you and/or your muses speak a second language so that's a bonus.
text color fader: *marge vc* I just think gradient effects on text is neat. *end marge vc*
list of colors (wikipedia): Has a list of an infinite number of colors and their hex codes. Very useful if I do say so, myself. But that's just me.
screencapped.net: Great for getting all sorts of screenshots for making icons, GFXs, promos, and whatnot.
fancaps.net: Also great for getting all sort of screencaps for making icons, GFXs, promos, and whatnot. My only complaint is that it's a little annoying to navigate so here's the proper links to movies, tv shows, and anime.
photopea: Great if you can't afford Photoshop and/or don't like using GIMP.
hakuneko: It's not so much a website as much as it is a program. You can download manga, comics, webtoons, doujinshi, etc. for making your icons, GFXs, promos, and whatnot. It's also just a great way to read stuff and catch up on everything.
Feel free to reblog and add more. <333
”Maybe that’s because they’re not too keen on seeing that ugly mug through the peephole.”
”You’re looking for my sister, then. “
The fib tasted bittersweet on the tip of his tongue, but the words had fled his lips before Avarice had a chance to stop them. He didn’t frequently display a protective nature with distant kin, but Em had often fallen into the cluster of those he would kill to protect. Although he knew this man could hardly inflict an ounce of damage, he still didn’t quite trust him. If Empathy was running, it was for a reason. If he was chasing, it was for a reason.
However, he wouldn’t intervene unless necessary. It wasn’t his business. But that didn’t mean he was curious.
“Didn’t your momma ever tell you not t’pursue a woman that wants nothin’ t’do with you?” The southern twang colouring his tone was an unmistakeable (albeit immature) jab at his company. “Best be on your way, deputy.”
“Ah, you’re probably right. Now you’re understandin’ why I didn’t bother with it.”
Accurate or otherwise, and he had no reason to believe either way just yet, a claim to be a sibling piqued his interest. In actuality, any connection to the elusive woman was likely to get his attention. That she wasn’t technically on their books was of little consequence, she’d popped up once again near to where he happened to be; reason enough to take a little time to seek her out.
“I think I read that in a magazine once.”
A faint grin at the mocking, his eyes lowered in the direction of the marshal badge hooked to his belt, gaze refocusing on the other man no more half a second later, only to drift behind him to the broad desk.
“I didn’t catch your name… Apathy? Wild guess.”

How To Actually Fight For Net Neutrality
There’s a lot of big, wordy articles going around tumblr right now, and they’re all great. But I wanted to make a mastpost of sorts of all the actions you can take and sites/bots that are here to help.
battleforthenet - The main hub for all things net neutrality. Fill out a form in seconds to e-mail your rep, or enter your phone number and a prerecorded message will call you, tell you exactly what to do and provide a script before connecting you with your representative. You can also set up a daily call.
Verizon Protests - Protests are happening at Verizon stores across the country on Dec 14th.
5 calls - This site is my favorite for calls. They provide a script and directions for calling the FCC, senators, and local state rep.
Resistbot - A phenominal service for those who cannot call, this bot will contact your rep on your behalf. However, every time I try to use it, they are busy.
Many of you are hitting the same roadblock I am: Mailboxes are full. So what do we do at that point? We send letters. Go to WhoIsMyRepresentative.com and enter your zip code to find addresses for your senators and house reps. You can use the phone script from the sites above, or compose your own note, or simply write “I am your constituent and I want you to fight to keep net neutrality.”
I know a lot of this is very overwhelming and hopefully this makes things easy and straightforward. You can send an e-mail, make 4 phone calls, and write a letter in less than 10 minutes. Please take the time to do so.
