Oh well this was just great.
Being a part of such a disgraced family, an ex-Death Eater, tortured and held prisoner in his own home for the entire last year of the war, treated like a pariah afterwards even if he was found innocent after his trials, Draco didn’t think he could go through anything worse. He left the Manor, but he had nowhere else to go except the Malfoy cottage in the country. They were never forced to use it, and so the place wasn’t tainted with bad memories, and he had a house elf showing up every day to help him get through the days.
When Harry Potter showed up one day in early August, it was, originally, to offer Draco his wand back, as it seemed the Wizarding World’s hero had forgotten he still had it. But even after Draco had it back in his hands, Harry didn’t leave, instead offering to have some tea for them to chat things over. And Draco didn’t know why, but he allowed Harry to come inside, and then, he wasn’t sure if it was the eventual brandy they were drinking, or because he was so touched starved, but one thing led to another, and they ended up in bed together.
It lasted one night. One rather nice night, free of nightmares, free of flashbacks and bad memories. One night of warm calloused hands touching him with gentle reverence, of lips tracking all of his scars with sincere worship. It was everything he wanted, and nothing he deserved, and by the next day, Harry was gone, and Draco was alone again, by his own decision. He wasn’t ready for something serious, and he wasn’t about to tie Harry down unfairly.
Unfortunately, fate had other plans.
He got his letter from Hogwarts asking if he’d like to come back for an Eighth year the same day he got a pregnancy test done, and then the answer came within hours, so he replied back in a positive. After all, he knew Harry would no doubt return too, if anything to just finish his education, and on September first, Draco arrived to King’s Cross, feeling a bit relieved that some of his friends had also decided to come back, giving Pansy, Blaise and Theo a tight hug as soon as they pounced on him.
“You smell different,” Pansy said, surprised. “Are you alright?”
“I don’t know yet,” Draco said, his eyes flickering to where he could see Harry and Hermione boarding the train together a small distance away.
