a new ship for y’all: aristemo
hey idk if you know anything about mexican television but in the last year a telenovela (bear with me) called ‘mi marido tiene más familia’ (my husband has more family) aired and it featured a teenage gay couple falling in love! the boys are around 16 years old in the novela and their names are aristóteles (aris) and cuahtémoc (temo) and together their ship name is aristemo!
the ship (which wasn’t originally supposed to happen but due to fan support they ended up together!) has become so popular that aristemo are getting their own series called ‘el corazón nunca se equivoca’ (the heart is never wrong) that will air on june 24th on univision! recording has already started and there’s 20 episodes planned. the plot involves the boys moving from oaxaca to mexico city after graduation and aris trying to make it in his music career while temo studies politics!

the boys who interpret the characters (joaquín bondoni as temo and emilio osorio as aris) are really sweet and you can tell they’re having a great time. (side note: emilio’s dad juan osorio is the producer of the novela so that’s probably the main reason why they’re getting their own spinoff lmao but we’re thankful anyways even though none of us really like him)
while there are sometimes some questionable censorship issues (blame televisa/sosorio) and typical levels of telenovela cringe, the screenwriters, santi and pablo, are gay and they really care about this storyline about bravery and overcoming social prejudice in mexican society!
this month mi marido tiene más familia won a glaad award and the boys got to attend the ceremony in new york! they’ve also received a lot of recognition in mexico and were e!online’s couple of the year
also thanks to the success of mmt+f there’s been an aristemo musical that had a lot of dates in mexico city. it features a lot of emilio’s songs which are bops and one of joaquín’s as well. (emilio’s album featuring joaquín comes out on may 15th!)
if you live outside of mexico and want to see their storyline then just google ‘aristemo story’ you can find a blog by the lovely zyrith n who has taken one of the supercuts on youtube of all of the aristemo scenes from the novela and added english subtitles!
