Birthright / 臍帯 (2010) A young, solitary woman, Mika, spends her time observing a family’s home from a distance, silently watching and learning the family’s daily routine, until one day she kidnaps the daughter of the family (Ayano) and rushes her to a disused building in which she locks herself and Ayano inside without food/water. As time goes on Ayano pleads with Mika to release her, the audience slowly learns that the kidnapping is all part of Mika’s elaborate revenge plot against Ayano’s mother, revenge for something that has been emotionally torturing Mika throughout her entire life.. An intense, beautiful film.
