𝓐𝓷𝓭 thus I see the light {Y&S}
Looking up at the other through his blonde locks Steve thought the other looked a bit like a prick. A majestic one- but still the energy that oozed off the other was definitely prick-like. He sure hoped the other was not able to read his mind. The sound of the rosary dropping down echoed in Steve’s mind as he watched the stoup- then looked back at the other angel. His expression souring as the man started to talk again. He did not like this angel one bit- but he was smart enough to at least not say it.
“A tree, right.” he did not really know much about trees. Ancient or not- but he supposed it had a meaning or something, like everything in this damn magical world that he did not understand. He wondered if he should pick up a Bible and start reading that, he always hated homework. Maybe if he treated it like one of his cases it would be easier to get through. How many pages were there in the Holy Book again?
Right, he was trailing off again. Focus, Steve. He stared at the other. “How do I know what to ask, I don’t even know why I am an angel.” he spat out- annoyed at the other, the situation and most of all himself. He did not know why he was even still here. Staring at the other man who was talking about trees and now nicknaming him ‘Lost one’ which somehow sounded like an insult. Steve let out a deep sigh as he straightened his wings and looked at the man again. “You didn’t give me your name,” he added, wondering what he would nickname the other. Lord Prickface came to mind but he did not think it would be taken kindly- even if it was true.
Childish thoughts aside the other asked and he shook his head. “Not religious, my parents were Buddhists but I never followed any religion. Went to church a few times for Christmas when my fiance went.” he thought of her, her full lips and lustful hips. Another distraction. DAMN IT STEVE, FOCUS.
He wondered if Lord Prickface liked women too, and what his opinion was on breasts.
“I learned a few prayers from when I hunted demons, but that’s about it. I know, uh, God as a dude and Jesus of course, Mary, I think Joseph?” He shrugged. “Not much more, oh and the bad guy, Satan? I think that is all that was discussed during the Christmas visits.” He did not hear any whispers and by now even if he had, he wouldn’t admit it to stroke the other’s ego even more.
“So, what’s the name?”
Dear oh dear. This one was truly of room temperature IQ, wasn’t he? The Father above had his own sense of humor though Kamijo very much could not quite fathom it, much like all of the mysteries He span into creation. Why bequeath some wings and angelic grace upon a mortal whose time had fizzled out? It was a question that had afforded him much misery and grief before, and thus, Kamijo was content to simply nod along to the explanation he’d heard through the heralds and Creator’s magnanimous voice: that perhaps humans needed a chance at redemption. Meaning.
Tired of standing around the stoup, so close to the murmurings of worshippers coming into the holy space to offer up words of reverence, the golden beast turned on his heel so that his perfectly white unstained satin cape fluttered around him like a wave of snowfall. “No need to get uppity, it is nothing of my own fault for your lack of virtuous patience.” Was it akin to scolding a child? A little.
“For humans, the transition into the Holy Family is wrought with confusion. Some find acceptance immediately along with the thrill of feeling feathers between their fingers. Others, find themselves swimming in doubt.” Kamijo glanced back to eye the haughty feral kitten. “You are swimming in it, aren’t you? The doubt? Insecurity over ‘how’ and ‘why’?” Kamijo lifted a finger, gesturing for the Lost One to follow as he walked toward the back of the Holy Space where there were austere wooden benches and delicately carved stone icons sitting on alcoves above the benches. The one closest to them was a statue of the Archangel Michael, his pose the same as always: arms raised, sword thrust downwards at the pinned Lucifer under his feet. It was shining, meticulously cared for, but absolutely devoid of the same heavenly light Michael actually possessed. A pale imitation.
“That is our brother, Michael. In all the eons of his fame, still he is depicted the same way always.” Out of part duty to inform the uninformed new heavenly feather, part internal satisfaction to stain the words of Michael’s prayer, the golden beast uttered the prayer so commonly circulated to plead with Michael. Though, his absence was large since the Great battle. “St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil." A rich chuckle fell from Kamijo’s lips and he shook his magnificent head.
“I am your brother, Kamijo. In the Light of our Father, I have been known as Seraphiel.” Seemingly out of nowhere, Kamijo produced a simple brown leather-bound bible that was soft to the touch and floppy. This he held out to the young one, meaning for him to take it. “Revelation 17:8. ‘The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come up out of the Abyss and go to its destruction. The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the creation of the world, shall wonder when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.’”
The smile that tugged on the lips of the archangel was beautiful in its perfection, but held a tainted wickedness that was only detectable to those who had some sense to doubt the common belief that all angels were inherently wholeheartedly pure. It was pride, but also experience, a life lived over ages. “That is me. I am the beast. Now if you can scrape together a question you’d like answered, I will do you the honor of providing answers.”
