Survey Comments/Concerns
I have finished going through the feedback that I got, and while there were only a few comments left from people, I wanted to address them here in case anyone wants to create a dialogue. Feel free to do so on anon or off, I don’t mind either way! However, please remember to speak kindly!
I will provide definitive dates and stuff soon.
Comment/Concern 1: “Maybe get participants to send actual fics over, however much they have done, at the check-ins, just to make sure everyone's on track and doing their part. And set a minimum word count at 4k or even 3k.”
I know this is something that other fic events like to do, but I feel as though forcing writers to send me their fic progress will be a cause of unnecessary stress for writers. My idea for check-ins is just to have writers confirm their involvement, since, often times, people forget to let me know that they are dropping out.
Comment/Concern #2: “Maybe not let repeat drop outs participate? I think a few of the same people just want a fic written for them with no intention of writing.”
You know, I have thought about this, but it’s hard to know who dropped out because they simply wanted their prompts written and never wanted to write, or if someone is just going through a hard time and had no other choice. I don’t want to punish people that had no other option because of those who abuse the exchange for what it is.
Comment/Concern #3: “maybe a collaboration with some artists would be nice?”
Incorporating artists is a fantastic idea, but I think I’d have to plan an entirely separate event for that, rather than bringing artists into the fic exchange. Plus, I simply don’t know enough artists creating for Zarry anymore. However, I’m open to ideas if anyone has them.
Comment/Concern #4: “Thanks for considering running the exchange again! Maybe having another mod or mod-lite may help you?”
I have tried having another mod in the past. Unfortunately, it didn’t last very long and didn’t end up working out. While I know having someone help can only benefit me and alleviate stress, I don’t know of anyone that I would feel comfortable trusting to help me out.
Comment/Concern #5: “Word counts & prompts”
I’m not sure what this means. The exchange has a mandatory 4k word count, and 3-5 prompts are provided by each writer. If you need any sort of clarification on either of these, just let me know! My apologies for not understanding!
For everyone that left a comment saying how much they love the exchange, thank you! I’m happy to see that after so many years people are still loving the idea of the exchange, and continue to support it in a variety of different ways.
