Study Models / Tensegrity / # Process_ 4
A tensegrity model is anther representation of strings and other solid supporting members. Since I have been exploring such a relationship, it would be beneficial to take a look at tensegrity models in their regular and irregular forms.
A regular 6-member tensegrity model that I made.
An irregular tensegrity model that I made hopefully it would push me further on my concept.
6-member irregular tensegrity model consisted of rubber bands and six ladder shaped members. However, this model did not go as well as I expected. Since the members were irregular, it was quite difficult to control and evenly distributed the tension and compression among all the rubber bands. All the "ladders" were squeezed together because of the unevenly distributed forces. So I should have to call this one a fail.
Study Models / # Process_ 3
This is another study model I made to explore the relationship between strings and staircase.
1. All the steps will be "closed" and form a ramp.
2. After stepping on the first step, the pressure will cause the rest of the step to rotate and reveal the steps.
3. The inside mechanics which triggers the series of steps to flip up.
Study Models / # Process_ 2
I gained the inspiration from Oyler Wu's Screenplay to explore further by connecting strings to frames shaped like human body in an abstract way. By generating interesting string patterns, I hoped that the triggering of certain strings would cause the rest to respond to the pressure brought by others. This would be a potential concept to my staircase project which the triggering of a series of strings would address the issue of balance finding. Every time when we use a staircase to climb up and down, we barely think of how our body work in terms of keeping us in balance. If we could slow down our motion on a staircase, we would force our body to wait for that right movement to step out.
Screenplay / Oyler Wu Collaborative / # Process_ 1
A dynamic 21-foot long screen wall conceived of as a ‘play’ on one’s visual perception. As the viewer moves around the wall, its three-dimensional qualities reveal a more complex system of deep sectional cavities, twisting surfaces, and material densities. The experience is meant to build on an ‘on again/off again’ system of pattern legibility, using optical effects as a means of provoking engagement in the work.
Human Bodies in Motion
Eadweard Muybridge’s stop-motion photography demonstrate animal and human locomotion.
Marcel Duchamp, Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2, 1912
The painting demonstrates an abstract body movement which the body serves as motions lines.
The painting is a combination of both Cubism and Futurism.
Cubism: A representation of 3-dimensional form objects are broken up, analyzed, and reassembled. Objects are illustrated from a multiple viewpoints to reveal a greater content.
Futurism: Emphasized and glorified themes associated with contemporary concepts of future.
The painting is also recognized for its influence gained from Eadweard Muybridge's stop-motion photography.
Shinichi Maruyama
Nude Series, 2012
Putting together the uninterrupted individual motion results series visible 3-denominational spaces which only exist on the image which captures the beauty of both human body’s figures and its motion. It is a connection of motions can be made to a human being's perception of presence in life.
