After he fails to pursue the heart of Penelope, Athena tells him to ask for Aphrodite's aid instead. Assuming she did help him after this song, and after what happened with Odysseus' mother, it would explain why Aphrodite was not even giving Athena a chance to help her free Odysseus in "God Games". She felt betrayed knowing his mother died of a broken heart (Eurylochus' fault) just a few years after giving him her aid in pursuing Penelope's heart.
