What is this blog about?

Ah the bane of too much fic-reading: you remember some of the details of the 1988 fic you read, but can’t remember the title? I’ll try to recall it for you!

How does it work?

Submit via ask the fic details you can remember, and I’ll try to publish your ask as soon as possible which includes the title of the fic and the link. It helps if you leave detailed, descriptive, and more specific hints to point me in the right direction.

I’m still probably looking for your fic. But also, I’m reserving the right not to publish asks that are rude, offensive, outright trolling and harassment. If you’ve sent any of these and have repeatedly sent asks which I haven’t answered, consider the possibility that you’ve been blocked.

pretty sure it was a bio bdsm au where jonny is the sub and patrick is the dom. dom/subs were pretty rare and the media made a big deal abt them being on the same team, they eventually get togetehr. patrick pov and while he's uninterested in the politics of d/s, and being a dom in general, it's definitely a present theme the story is concerned with. i think the author said like "this is a fic about social change from the perspective of someone not interested in it". there's a big deal made abt collaring. at some point i think patrick sits outside jonny's hotel room but i'm not sure.

Hi! I was trying to look for a fic in which Kaner sort of gifts Jonny a trip that involves both of their families and Jonny says he doesn’t want that. Sorry, that’s literally all I can remember :’( Thank you for your help!

I think this is Call Me Royal Blue, one of my absolute favorites. Relevant excerpt:

“Wellll, David and I were kind of planning a surprise trip to Mexico this summer. Mostly David,” that last part is a lie, but Patrick doesn’t want to be the ringleader if Jonny’s face is going to continue looking like this. “Like, for both our families. As a birthday present.” When Jonny doesn’t say anything, Patrick specifies, “For you.” Jonny looks so uncomfortable. Honestly like something has crawled up his butt. “Look, Patrick,” and the minute Patrick hears those words is when he knows this is gonna be some bullshit. Jonny has his eyes shut, like he’s visualizing, steeling himself to give some talk he isn’t psyched to give. “That might not be the best idea.”

Looking for a *very* explicit fic featuring a very, *very* slutty Jonny. I can no longer remember the title of said fic, but I do remember the fic description having something among the lines of "During the season, Jonny was still a slut, always needing something in his ass and in his mouth". I also very vaguely remember the end notes having "deleted scenes also include me apologizing to god". I haven't been able to find it and I'm worried it got deleted :( Regardless, help would be appreciated! <3

The title is Side to Side all Summer Long, and appears to have already been deleted :(

Summary:

During the season, he was still a slut, always needed something in his ass, and could only really fall asleep if he was given something to suck on, but he also had hockey to concentrate on. He was mostly clear headed, could have conversations with other people, could think about stuff that wasn’t about getting filled. The offseason, however, was a different story. In the offseason, without hockey obligations, Jonny literally could not think of anything else.

Hello!! I’m hoping you’re able to help me out with finding this fic. All I remember is scene(s?) with Jonny speaking French to his mom (I think on the phone while on the bus/plane with the team?) and he likes reading The Little Prince. It’s been bugging me for a while now and I figured I’d ask! Thank you.

I can recall three fics where Jonny likes to read The Little Prince, and they're all kidfics 😅

Chelsea Chelsea I Believe by empathapathique - this is the likeliest, i think. Speaking in French also seems to be an important subplot in this fic, but I can't find the part where Jon is speaking with Andree in French. Has this part though:

He runs his fingers over a single spine. Le Petit Prince—Pat immediately recognizes the title. He’s seen Jon with his own copy, dog-eared and ancient-looking, ready to fall apart the next time Jonny turned a page. Pat asked about it once, but Jonny only said that he’d gotten it from his mom. It seemed awfully sentimental, especially for a guy like Jon. Not that Pat could judge: the guys still tease that Pat’s spend half his time on the phone with his mom, the rest drunk off his ass, whatever time he has in-between bugging Jon. Jon used to carry it in his bag during road trips. Pat would see him pull it out every so often; flip the through the pages, read to himself in French. This went on until sometime last year, when Sharpy saw him with the book and spent half a bus ride making fun of him for it, joking about a fox and a prince: ‘And who’s your vain rose, Toe-ez?’

You’re being weird,” Jonny tells him one night when he comes back to the living room after reading Bells her requested bedtime story. Ever since he brought Bells his copy of Le Petit Prince, she’s been asking him to read it at least once a week. It’s the cutest thing Patrick’s ever seen, because Bells is trying to learn the French, but she’s so bad at it. He’d feel bad for laughing at his kid, but, well, he’s the kind of jerk who doesn’t feel bad for laughing at his kid. “How am I being weird?” When Jonny just shrugs, Patrick rolls his eyes. “That’s very helpful, thank you.”

3. Centripetal by ellievolia - this also deleted, but it's shorter than the other two and mentions this:

So here they are; Johnny sprawled on his couch with a book held over his head with one hand, and keeping Maddy secure over his chest with another. She’s half asleep, snuffling and moving from time to time, but seemingly happy to just stay there, listening to Johnny read out loud to her. “Je regardai donc cette apparition avec des yeux tout ronds d'étonnement. N'oubliez pas que je me trouvais à mille milles de toute région habitée. Or mon petit bonhomme ne me semblait ni égaré, ni mort de fatigue, ni mort de faim, ni mort de soif, ni mort de peur. Il n'avait en rien l'apparence d'un enfant perdu au milieu du désert, à mille milles de toute région habitée.” His version of the book is old, and battered; it’s a second-hand one that he found in a yard sale one summer in Winnipeg and couldn’t help himself from getting, remembering his mother reading it to him as a bedtime story when he was little. It was strangely sentimental of him, but at the same time he just thought that maybe, one day. At the moment it’s doing wonders to keep Maddy all quiet and warm against him, a comfortable weight on his ribcage; he doesn’t even mind when she kicks her feet into his stomach, his hand reaching down to loosely hold a tiny pajama-clad foot, making her giggle when he tickles her a little.

Heyo, hope December's treating you well! I'm looking for a fic/fic outline I'm p sure was either posted on tumblr only or deleted (or both). In it, Jonny has a twin & they both hook up with Patrick & also each other..? Can't find it with the obvious tags on Ao3 so yeah it might be gone at this point, but if you also remember this one at least I know I'm not crazy :D

As you may know, I've been inactive here, but this fic series is so dear to me, I can't help replying; as far as i know this refers to @allthebros and @sorrylatenew's twin jonny verse. some of it--and it was a whole canon verse and there were AUs as well--were in atb's blog, but you still may see some posts of the 'verse on sln's blog here.

It was a creative, emotional and immersive (and hot!) verse, I have very fond memories discussing it with the authors, and reminds me of what I love most in this fandom I very much miss. :)

Hello! I'm looking for a fic but literally the only things I can remember about it are 1) it was great and 2) the boys used rock paper scissors to decide a lot of their arguments. Patrick was smug because he'd figured out that Jonny always chose scissors and so could always beat him, but after a POV switch halfway through the story it becomes obvious Jonny is just letting him win for strategic, feelings-related reasons. Thank you so much and sorry I'm so vague!

I think this is I Got A Love (That Keeps Me Waiting) by svmadelyn! Here’s the relevant portion:

"Okay, who's recording and who's feeding?" Johnny asks, when it becomes clear that they both want to be the one with the spoon.

Kaner holds his fist out, and Johnny immediately does the same and starts the three count.

"Aww, man," Kaner says, when Johnny's scissors demolish Kaner's paper. Kaner sighs and pulls out his phone and nods when he's ready; Johnny twirls the spoon with a dramatic flourish, for filming purposes. Johnny's almost sure that Kaner has picked up on the fact that Johnny always picks scissors. Years and years ago, when they'd first started rock-paper-scissors to decide on random shit, he'd thought he'd save picking paper for something important, something he had to win. Nothing in all this time has presented itself, and he likes seeing whether or not Kaner actually wanted something in the first place based on whether he picks paper to lose, or rock to win. Like now, Kaner clearly thinks this is about to go badly, so he's just sacrificed Johnny to the wolves.

Lately, he's sort of thought that he could save his sneak paper pick for Sam. If Sam decides to play hockey, technically, he'd be an American for international tournaments, but Johnny could probably win him some Canadian nationality applications with the correct rock-paper-scissors strategy.

[spoiler alert: and then at some point, Jonny switches to paper for a crucial conversation in the story 😉]

I’m about to go crazy trying to remember this fic because the only detail I have is that Pat had an old laptop he did his stats project on and Jonny got him a new one and then like at the end of the fic pat ends up working for the hawks as a stat analyst? if i dreamed up this whole thing let me know lol

this ask has been languishing in my inbox for months maybe and i still don’t know what the answer is 😔 did i? miss? a stats guy patrick fic? it seems so familiar tho 🙃. i can’t seem to find the fic where jonny gifts a laptop, but here are similarly-themed fic:

The guy who sits behind Jonny in AP Stats wants to know how many shots on goal he had last Tuesday. Or at least, that's how it starts.

A high school AU featuring stats nerd Kaner and his Tragic Hockey Backstory (TM), without much time or inclination toward actual tragedy. Instead there is discussion of Corsi. And kissing.

2. The Lake by Mullsandmutts

Patrick is struggling to put himself through college at an elite and very expensive school despite scholarships and working. Due to life tragedies, Patrick was forced to give up playing hockey as a teen. Jonny is the captain of the hockey team at the same college. When they collide (literally), Patrick's tenuous grasp on his situation comes tumbling to the ground. Jonny may not remember Patrick, but Patrick absolutely remembers him.

As many people have pointed out to me, this is A Sure Thing by thundersquall!!! 

The relevant portion:

He gapes at it in shock. Jonny got him something - why and what for?

He sits down on the sofa and perches the box on his lap as he pulls the ribbon loose, and then sets to work carefully tearing the paper open. When he realises what it is, he has to put his hands over his mouth just so he won't yell out loud. He has to struggle to remember how to breathe through his amazement and excitement.

It's a laptop - a brand new Macbook Pro, identical to the one Jonny himself uses.

He can't - his hands are shaking as he opens the box and sees the shiny silver laptop resting inside. Holy fuck. Jonny got him a laptop. Jonny saw him struggling with his old shitty one, and went out and got him a new one.

Do you recall a fic where Pat and Jon meet as teenagers at the Blackhawks Convention? Pat takes the bus there alone from Buffalo and meets Jonny and his friends by chance and ends up spending the weekend with them. At the end they decide to keep up with their new relationship even tho both are headed off to college/home.

It’s this fic called You Know I Dreamed About You, but it looks like it isn’t on AO3 anymore. :( Summary is just what you asked for:

It’s none of his business, but Jonny can’t help twisting around in his seat to look when Sharpy’s repeating the question, curious anyway. Patrick has a pair of thick black headphones settled over his ears, and Sharpy looks kind of awkward, his voice raised a little—even though it’s not going to help at all—as he asks about them. It probably just feels weird to talk to a guy with headphones on, even if he were to have great hearing, but Patrick doesn’t.

Patrick says, “I like music? I can’t hear it, but if it’s loud enough I can feel the vibrations.” He slurs the word ‘vibrations’, like the ‘b’ doesn’t exist. Nobody bothers to chirp him for it.
