Today's bird is this Welcome Swallow
Osprey in white and black ink
Made this today. I'm very out of practice and I didn't bother making the feathers wholly accurate, but it turned out better than I thought it would.
Sand pipers running very quickly together as it is their typical behavior. They stick together because they are small but together they are a swarm and swarms can be speedy; it is their greatest trait apart from their uncanny ability to find treats in the sands
Roseate Spoonbill (Platalea ajaja). Family Threskiornithidae, order Pelecaniformes.

for those of you who are having trouble putting down your phone but want to stop endlessly scrolling — try citizen science projects. almost 100% of remote projects are super easy to join and let you work at your own pace/set your own hours, and you can contribute to something meaningful and feel good about your screen time (plus most work can be done with some background music unless you’re doing audio work)
Might I recommend Zooniverse? It has so many different types of research going on :)
The Zooniverse is the world’s largest and most popular platform for people-powered research.

Do you have a spark bird story?
"A spark bird is a term used by the birding community for the bird that hooks someone into their passion for birding."
If you have a story to share, even if it's quite small, please feel free to share with the Spark Bird Project!
The Spark Bird Project is an ongoing community science initiative designed to gather and share the stories of people’s passion for birds. Re
Dr. Lodi-Smith was recently a seminar speaker in my department and had a wonderful talk about this project and the ways that finding joy in hobbies can impact self-perception and mental health across a lifetime. She really was a joy to have and this project is quite an interesting bridge between psychology and ornithology. I only felt it was right to share the link to her project with my bird themed audience lol.
Also-- even if you're not in the US, you can participate! Dr. Lodi-Smith expressed a desire to diversify the dataset and outside the US is a big part of that.
It only took me about ten minutes to write my story - it might take you less! I actually found it really enjoyable to look back on my spark bird memories :,) Highly recommend taking the time to do this if you want to contribute to citizen science, but are too busy to regularly set aside hours at a time.
This Saturday, I was lucky enough to be able to get a rental car for a day to do some Car Needed things that haven’t been possible with my vehicle broken down. Right before I was going to head home for the night, I got word that a little kitten in our area needed transport to her foster home through my friend’s rescue, Purrs and Paws Project - we were happy to step up and give her a ride.
We’re really glad this baby is where she needs to be. I’ve posted about Liza’s rescue here before, but I can’t overstate enough how needed it is in our community in NC. Liza is now up to 8 bottle babies, + many older kittens, cats, and several dogs (one of whom is pregnant and heartworm positive). She is just one person, single-handedly funding this rescue aside from the donations she receives. If anyone is able to chip in and send support, whether it’s financially or just helping share, it is much appreciated.
If you are around Southern NC, Liza may be able to pick up physical donations. Otherwise, she accepts donations through the following:
Direct donation to vet < Specify that you’d like to donate to Purrs & Paws Project’s account!

Chewy wishlist
Thank you to everyone who’s stepped up and done what they can to help!
