“Some people are destined to do big things. That’s great. But the rest of us, we carry the small gifts. That’s just as important to the people whose lives we touch.”
“I used to go to bed every night, just praying I would wake up as somebody else. I spent my whole life hating myself and just… just wishing that.”
“I made myself the punchline so other people couldn’t.”
“People like me?”
“Wally, anything you could’ve called me back then I’ve already called myself thousands of times. And there are still moments that I believe all of it. Like, I can’t even accept that someone would actually ever want to be with me.”
“Charley? You know I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
THIS.
SCHOOL SPIRITS: 2X06
yeah this is big for me personally.
I think one of the kindest things you can do for people with various mental health struggles is just... let people back into your life after they've been absent for a while.
Making friends as an adult is so fucking hard already and isolating yourself from other people is a very common symptom of depression, anxiety, burnout, ocd, trauma, grief, etc. Which means that someone will do the hard work of recovery/healing and resurface back into a world where their previous friends have written them off because they stopped showing up.
So if you know someone where you're like "yeah we could have been better friends but they fell off the map a bit" and that person suddenly reaches out, or starts showing up to events even though you kind of forgot they were still in the group chat... well they may have been Going Through It and you don't actually have to punish them for their absence you can just be glad that they're back.
My favorite "Slice of Life" movies
These movies are uncomfortable in their realism and don't shy away from negative aspects of the subject matter they portray. if you're looking for a deep, maybe-unsettling movie to sit down and cry to, these are for you.
1. The Florida Project
This movie is soft and colorful - reminiscent of simpler times. despite this, the subject matter of the movie isn't as lighthearted. this film displays everyday economic and social disparities of a single mother and her child living a short distance away from Disney World, Florida. the reason I enjoy this film so much is because of how raw it was. it's loaded with improv, mostly from the children. this dialogue decision was wise because it genuinely feels real to the audience. some would call this film odd or abstract. I call it realistic.
2. Mysterious Skin
this one is probably the most uncomfortable on my list. the color-grading and general tone of this film allows it to be nostalgic, calming, and sometimes fun. this is somewhat of a juxtaposition with the plot, however. Mysterious Skin is a movie about 2 boys who get molested at a young age by the same man. the film displays the difference in reactions to the trauma that the 2 boys have; one becomes a male prostitute, and the other becomes uncomfortable with most forms of intimacy. this film does not shy away from the good, the bad, and the ugly. it's an amazing movie, but I can only watch it once.
3. Mid-90s
this movie is nostalgic as well. see a theme progressing? Mid90s is a film about the struggles of a preteen boy growing up in an economically challenged area in the 90s. this film nails the true retro aspects of what makes the 90s great-- the colors, costumes, and script are good in immersing the audience. it's emotional yet calming, fun yet sad. watch this movie if you want to think about the world.
i loved growing up as a girl, but when i see the goonies, stand by me, the lost boys, mid90s, even stranger things or dead poets society… yeah i wish for boyhood

This gif does not represent happiness of the fish. Fish do not swim this way for fun. This fish is dying of amonia poisoning. It’s basically suffocating in it’s own waste.
The more you know.
You must be fun at parties.
