I’m very upset over religion right now.

I am not religious in any way shape or form, but I was raised by a Christian dad/relatives, went to a Christian school, was Christian for 8 years, study religion, and hear worship and scripture very often— so I know what I’m talking about.

Im so sick and tired of SOME religious people online (primarily Christians) asking dumb questions about atheism.

“Why do you get offended when we say you’re going to hell? It’s just the truth.”

The short answer is that being told to burn in hell isn’t a very polite thing to say to somebody.

The long answer is that, you telling me that I’m going to burn in hell implies that (although I do not believe) you believe there is a hell to go to, meaning that you full heartedly believe that I will burn— not metaphorically, PHYSICALLY— in a fiery pit.

Idk about you, but that sounds a bit rude to me…

And the constant need to try convince people that Christians are an oppressed minority, especially in western places like America and Australia. “I feel like nobody is Christian anymore, everybody hates us!”

You cannot call yourself oppressed when you say I’m going to burn in hell and die because of the simple fact of non-belief.

And just the whole

I’ve been hot and bothered all week because on my instagram I just get constant videos of Christians going

Bro I could not care less I don’t want his love, I don’t want your opinion, I don’t want to be redeemed or to be converted. I am perfectly fine being atheist. I do not care that I’m going to burn in hell, because I don’t believe it exists.

And even if I KNEW a god existed, I STILL would not worship him. This doesn’t go for just Christians, it’s for ALL Abrahamic religions. I will not devote my life and energy to worship something that allows rapists to walk freely, war and genocide and bombings to occur, and murder to go without being sent to hell because they believed in the resurrection of Jesus, let alone worship a MAN.

Imo religion, specifically abrahamic religion, is rooted in misogyny and patriarchal elements, and I do not want any part in it.

I know religion can be peaceful, but I don’t find peace in it whatsoever. I only find questions and anger and pain, and I do not care that I’m being sent to hell because I don’t believe. I don’t care that Jesus loves me.

If this seems insensitive, I’m sorry, but it is my opinion and my personal belief based on experience with religious people IRL and on the internet.

Does anyone know the name of that one Newsies/West Side Story fanfic where instead of Maria and Tony, It's Spot and Race and like Race has to kill Spot because they were caught kissing but then Race stabs himself or something, and then there's another few parts to the series where Jack is super overprotective of Race and stuff? Rant about religion because I'm kinda mad rn

If god is all-powerful, all-loving, and all-knowing, why is there century long conflict around the globe? Why do children die of cancer? Why is there such hate and terror in our world? If he's all-knowing, he would know that giving us free will would be a bad choice. And if he's all-loving, he would want us to love each other, not start wars with each other, right?

Why can a murderer, a pedophile, or a rapist go to heaven simply by turning to Jesus and repenting, but an atheist who has lived a morally and ethically good life get sent to hell just because they don't believe in god?

If choosing to molest and/or murder someone is a sin, and is also free will, why is their action at the expense of another human? Wouldn't god want all his creatures to be happy and prosper?

If god loves all his creatures, why does he send the ones who don't believe in him to hell? Everyone on earth is his creature- sending them to fiery hellish pits doesn't seem like love to me.

I've seen too many Christians flip around with the free will argument, because they choose the option that applies to their situation and don't stick with it. A common pattern is 'good = god's plan' and 'bad = free will'. Saying "It's all part of god's plan" and then claiming that horrible things people do are "free will" directly contradict each other.

I used to be Christian and was raised in a religious school. I am an atheist now because when I took a moment to look at any claims made about how the world works in god's favour, they were unfounded and didn't make any factual or moral sense to me. In my school, I would be looked down on and ridiculed if I told people I wasn't religious. I'm an atheist, and nothing will change my mind.

I shouldn't have to prove or explain to people why I'm NOT religious or why I don't sing gospel songs in the morning or join in with the Lord's Prayer or bow my head. I don't ask people, "Why are you Muslim? Why are you Jewish? Why are you Buddhist? Why are you a Christian?"

So why do I have to explain why I don't believe in ANY creator and decider of the universe, or why I wouldn't ever want to worship him anyway?
