247jiyong:
Knowing too well who the person before him was didn’t help him to keep a straight face or at least let a warm grin with a pinch of playfulness in it spread across his lips. Instead, there was a sheepish smile making its way onto his mouth. He wished to be indifferent and block out the high school memories storming through his head out of the blue. The way their friendship ended was still questionable and filled him with hesitation even after the years. Of course, now both of them were adults and despite not growing attached to the past, Jiyong found it to be a struggle to act as if it was the first time they had encountered each other.
Attempting to focus on whatever offer she had come with, the awkwardness washing over his face didn’t seem to fade away. “Mhm,” he hummed to give a sign that he was attentively listening and not wandering off to the Cheongnam days constantly lingering at the back of his mind. “Sounds good. I’m in.” With a single nod, he concisely agreed right off the bat, not demanding any more details regarding the party. Not solely due to his feel of odd discomfort mercilessly intensifying but mainly because playing outside Lush would always bring some variety to his daily routine.
In spite of a part of him wanting to get back to being shamelessly unproductive in front of the laptop, Jiyong also wanted to catch up with Nahyoung’s life and what she had been up to lately. Until then, he wasn’t aware of how much everything that had taken place several years ago was left unclear and had never been bluntly explained. Rubbing his nape, he vanquished his apprehension and looked into the female’s eyes. “It’s been a while.” He spoke in a voice bordering on a whisper and a corner of his lips went upwards to form a bittersweet smile.
nahyoung laid the folder out, just in case he wanted to review it in the future. she had her own copies so she didn't mind letting this one go. it had been easier than expected for him to agree and she didn't brother asking why. all that mattered was that he's show up and play and then he would be paid and this part of her job was finished. they stood in silence for a few minutes before he spoke again and she nodded her at him. "it has been a while." they didn't keep in contact and nahyoung knew that was her fault. once she left the halls of her high school, she made sure never to turn back. the people others had called her closet friends didn't hear from her.
but she didn't want to talk about the past. it should stay where it was and leave her alone. she stared jiyong in the eyes, she hopped hopped he understood that without her having to say it so bluntly. but the future, she could talk about the future with ease. it only held her dreams and her child, it was all she really needed. "have you been well?" nahyoung wasn't even amazed at the fact that her voice sounded so formal. "you did well for yourself too." honestly, she didn't know what to expect of the others once they left. but jiyong had made a name for himself and she wasn't above being happy for him.
