theres a reason why his internet was cut off and more people need to know about it
Nji is from Bamenda which is in the minority anglophone (english) part of the country (the south west and the north west regions) which has currently been protesting for months because the government only cares about the francophone people. meaning judges in anglophone speaking areas only speak french, anglophone kids are taught by teachers that barely speak english or dont speak at all, important govt positions in anglophone areas have francophone people, laws arent even translated to english, etc… this has been going on since the beginning of cameroon due to colonization
people have been brutally beaten and killed by the military and communication has been cut off in anglophone parts. “president” paul biya (been in office for about 40 years but thats a whole other issue) recently declared a war against social media and called it “a new form of terrorism” and “dangerous tool people use to spread falseness” because people were using to spread images and videos of what was going on so he cut the internet due to this “threat”
schools have been indefinitely closed and activists have had their phones illegally searched and have been thrown in jail for simply spreading videos of whats been going on over whatsapp. many of us overseas have little to no contact with our familes. children are being beaten by the military, the military is going around brutilizing people, and our economy is failing
PLEASE SPREAD THIS TO LET PEOPLE KNOW WHATS GOING ON IN CAMEROON
*edit* many people have reblogged this which is great! thank you for helping to spread this! an answer that has come up is how can i help?
if you live in the us what you can do to is call/email your local representatives and senators and ask them if they are aware of the human rights violations in cameroon. if you live outside the us, do the same. the more governemts that take an official stance and can pressure the cameroonian government, the better
tweet about it! go on facebook! go on instagram! make noise! the official hashtag for it is #bringbackoutinternet. tag your friends and family members. people need to be aware and be outraged. but please remember to not talk over local activists
