↳ THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING (2026) | dir. Francis Lawrence
The casting oh my gosh the casting!!!
I just finished To Sir Phillip, With Love and I wanted to ask you something.
Do you think Phillip was giving depression as well? His whole emotional state, drowning (see what I did there?) in a fog of fear and regrets for things he hadn't done, guilt, passiveness, feeling he could never be enough for the kids, irritability, being unable to enjoy anything but gardening, getting touchy about the lake . . .
I wonder if Phillip was depresssed as well, just holding up a bit better than Marina. What do you think? It would certainly explain a lot.
I think Phillip in the books is a complex character in a series that would like him to be a little more one dimensional. And I do think he had some form of accumulated mental health trauma already from the abuse he suffered under his father that was made bigger by losing George and not being able to make his marriage with Marina work, culminating in not being able to save her/ having her die on him.
I do think he is depressed, not clinically like Marina, but his depression is more the type that is caused by trauma-based emotional shutdown too much happened to him and he didn't know how to process it or protect himself so he copes the best way he knows. By focusing on his plants and trying not to be like his father. He's also shown a lot of signs of avoidant attachment.
Additionally, personal experience, but now that I have a child myself I can understand a little better Phillip's mental state in regards to his children. Both in not wanting to be like his abusive parent and in losing his temper in that one moment that made him fear his capacity to hurt his loved ones.
Because when you have a child and you come from a less than happy home there's this fear that never goes away, that you came from your parents, that there might be something rotten in their dna that was passed on to you and it could show up the moment you stop trying your best to not be like them. And you know your kid doesn't deserve that. But the fear never goes away. Lose your temper once and that could be you, a monster they hide away from. No matter how much of a stellar parent you are, I guarantee there's always that fear in the back of your head 'what if one day I grow to hate my kid the way my parent hated me '
We don't talk about the generational trauma JQ unintentionally saddled Phillip with. He's the ONLY character she wrote who already had children by the time we meet him and it adds such a heartbreaking layer to how hard his life has been before meeting Eloise. Parenting is hard in the best of days, parenting alone, while taking care of your mentally ill spouse when all you know from your father is physical abuse, that's the sort of stuff that kills people on the inside. I can see why Phillip genuinely thought staying away from his kids was the best way to love them. And why he thought not opening up about his trauma was the best way to love his new wife. Especially when said wife made him so happy he didn't want to ruin it.
Anyway before I start writing a whole essay about how Phillip still managed to learn from his mistakes in his marriage to Marina and despite his depression remain a pretty decent human being. Im going to say that with the benefit of age, I still think Phillip is misunderstood by the fandom. He's a complex male lead and very much the kind of guy you could meet in real life. So it's interesting to see what people think about him online.
Hope in the show he ends up with a nice sort of woman or man who loves him and understands that good relationships are worth some mutual effort. He deserves a good love story.
And that's the tea
The Devil wears Danbury: a fashion story told in eight parts
Famously outspoken Agatha Danbury has a reputation as the best of the fashion industry, editor in chief for the best selling magazine 'The Ton' Her success is only matched by her revolving door of assistants. All who seem to mysteriously find love and quit before the year is over. But Danbury is nothing if not persistent. Every girl that passes her office must be the best if not then they are free to quit. Of course out of all her former assistants, Agatha Danbury had a special place in her cold heart for Violet's girls.
First there was Daphne, influencer turned aspiring designer who nobody believed in, yes, she took everything Danbury sent her way with a social media smile and boosted the Danbury brand with her PR magic, too bad dear Simon had to swoop in with his false dating scheme to boost his ratings and out was Daphne, inlove and quitting, off to design her first collection.
Then came Kate, a unorthodox recommendation from her sister, who happened to one of Danbury's smartest models, sure Kate was an out of options accountant on a mission to protect her sister Edwina from the dangerous modeling industry, but her help was invaluable when Anthony Bridgerton decided to be an overgrown manchild and put in a request for Danbury's retirement, saying that the formidable Agatha was too old for her job and needed to step down her throne. Well, Kate took care of that, sadly one too many months of sexually charged yelling later and out was Kate, off to marry Anthony and manage Bridgerton Industries. Danbury didn't regret swindling Anthony out of a couple of millions in her contract renewal just as much as he didn't regret stealing Kate out of her grasp.
Poaching Sophie out of Araminta's claws in a business deal was a bargain, Sophie was willing to sell her soul to the devil to get out of her stepmother's thumb and Danbury needed to put Araminta in her place, Sophie was charismatic and quite elegant, had Benedict Bridgerton not swept her off her feet, Sophie could have made a name for herself as a model. Sadly Benedict genius-Artist Bridgerton, made a nuisance of himself in Danbury's office untill "his Muse" said yes to a date and eventually Sophie accepted that she'd rather pose for her beloved painter than any famous photographer and then once again, Danbury was handed another resignation letter.
Then came Penelope, begging for the job after her best friend's brother got too close to discovering the real identity The Ton's salacious columnist, Reporter Whistledown and even then Danbury knew she'd lose Penelope soon. A suspicious Colin Bridgerton was always hard to shake off, so in an effort to help and out of pure mischief Danbury organized the Whistle Revelation contest hoping that millions of suspects would throw Colin of Penelope's scent and hopefully make him realize his blatantly obvious feelings for Penelope sooner. Of course when Colin found out the truth it cost Danbury her best gossip columnist and firing her was only logical now that Reporter Whistledown was exposed. It had nothing to do with 'The Ton' sister publication 'Traveling Coach' offering Penelope a spot as an editor, or it being Colin Bridgerton's site of employment. Danbury might like Penelope, but she wasn't that sentimental.
Francesca lasted exactly two weeks before Michael Stirling came storming into Danbury's office to take her back to Scotland. And to be honest, Danbury didn't even know why she hired Francesca, as the former CFO of Kilmartin games, Fran Bridgerton really had no business hiding out in 'The Ton' and using Danbury's reputation as a shield to escape whatever was happening between her and Stirling. Let alone take a job that was extremely under her paygrade and in a fashion magazine of all places. Agatha's temporary insanity aside, Francesca was the height of efficiency, Danbury almost fought Stirling for her. Yet once again, Agatha was forced to fire a perfectly competent (if overqualified) assistant because of a man inlove. But at least now Kilmartin games owed 'The Ton' a fashion app and a Xbox game.
Hiring Eloise as an assistant after her feminist articles got her fired from one too many newspapers was a favor to Violet. Sending her assistant to track down the reclusive celebrity landscaper and pressure him for an exclusive while Danbury treated herself to a needed vacation in Romney England felt like an easy solution. What trouble could Eloise Bridgerton ever find in the country?. Plenty apparently. One week after reaching their destination, Eloise had already gotten into a paintball war with Phillip's children, given the impression she'd been kidnapped by said man to her brothers and ended the weekend with her and Agatha covered in flour, plus a black eye. If Phillip Crane hadn't said he was some sort of pen pal of hers, Danbury would have called Violet, but as it was Eloise was much adored by the Cranes. Even if the family had a strange way of showing it, with paintball, nerf guns and flowers (too many flowers!). Either way Eloise was too energetic for the fashion industry. Her resignation was no surprise (Her wedding invitation was). And while Eloise credited Agatha for the inspiration behind her choice to start Women Voices Publishing. Danbury would rather just have a competent assistant
Lucy the only one with actual PA experience, was with Danbury the longest, almost a whole year of absolute bliss until some idiot decided hiring Gregory Bridgerton and Hermione (dimwit) Watson in the same multimillion dollar Ad campaign was a good idea. Danbury was ready to cut heads anytime Gregory botched a shoot because he couldn't stop staring at Hermione, who in turn used Lucy's connection to Danbury as a shield whenever she ruined the shoot. Not to mention that Danbury knew fully well that Gregory was using Watson as an excuse to escape his attraction to Lucy. Then of course Gregory had to pull a Bridgerton and get his head out of his arse only when Lucy was about to marry, So yes, Danbury called in a favor with Benedict and gave Lucy's fiancee a tiny push out of the closet. But she resented Gregory, she resented him so much. If he hasn't retired from modeling and gone off to work for Anthony. She would have ruined his career for making her lose Lucy.
And finally there was Hyacinth, Danbury's current assistant, Hyacinth had been with Agatha since graduating college with aspirations of one day becoming editor in chief too, the older woman could see her as a successor in 'The Ton' if only Hyacinth wasn't set on leaving Danbury after getting enough experience to make a splash in the business world then everything would be perfect. Of course, if only her grandson could use that legendary charm to make Hyacinth stay in Danbury's magazine. But while Garret has been attracted to Hyacinth since forever and is an excellent CEO for the magazine, he only has eyes for the family finances his idiot father keeps trying to bankrupt... Unless Danbury gives them both a push too.... She wants to keep Hyacinth after all.
Just so you know I manifested this!!

Coming May 1st!
What did you say to Francesca?” Eloise asked.
“I beg your pardon?”
“Francesca,” Eloise repeated, referring to her younger sister who had married six years earlier—and was tragically widowed two years after that. “What did you say to her when she married? You mentioned Daphne, but not Francesca.”
Violet’s blue eyes clouded, as they always did when she thought of her third daughter, widowed so young. “You know Francesca. I expect she could have told me a thing or two.”
Eloise gasped.
“I don’t mean it that way, of course,” Violet hastened to add. “Francesca was as innocent as . . . well, as innocent as you are, I imagine.”
.......................
“But you know Francesca,” Violet continued, shrugging and looking back up when she realized that there was nothing she could do about the hem. “She’s so sly and knowing. I expect she bribed some poor housemaid into explaining it all to her years earlier.”
- to Sir Phillip with love chapter 14
Can we talk about the fact that even Violet is aware that Francesca does stuff behind her back and is totally like 'YOLO Francesca's can do whatever she wants because at least nobody is finding out'
which brings us to the question WHAT THE H WAS FRANCESCA HIDING IN BATH DURING SEASON 1 I wanna know!!

More Eloise meta ( this is the last one I promise)
So some days ago I answered yet another ask from a fan who wants to Fix Eloise. And it really got me thinking about the appeal Eloise has a character. The univeral call she seems to make to the world " please fix me" or "please fix my circumstances" that all her fans seem to want to answer. Attributing this to something we cant pinpoint that just seems to be fundamentally 'not right' with her as a character. And if only we could fix that mythical "it" then she would be happy.
It took me a bit of soul searching to figure out what I think is the problem is for Eloise and came to the conclusion that it all goes back to the genre of the show
Romance
Eloise Bridgerton as she is portrayed in the show was NOT written for the fate of a Romance Genre heroine. An action girl? Absolutely. A political thriller? Even better.
If she could break the fouth wall she'd be begging to be transferred to Enola Holmes. She would love to be a character in How to Get Away with Murder or Scandal. Instead she's stuck in freaking Bridgerton and of course she hates it.
Honestly after four seasons it's become painful to watch
She fits in well with characters like Lara Croft, Natasha Romanoff and Kim Possible. Characters who have a fling here and there but their main genre of being and reason for continuing plotlines is something other than romance. But not with the likes of Daphne, Kate and Penelope. Or even Francesca who from their introduction in the show have shown in one way or another that they welcome their role as a Romantic genre Female Lead.
And it's sad because you see every Eloise fan wants her somehow to be something that she's not. Trying to fix her as though with the right storyline or the 'right' sexual orientation somehow her characterization will make sense within the parameters that have been set around her. Exactly because she is in the wrong genre of show.
The collective sentiment that if only we could fix her or fix things for her, then she would be happy. Carrying the implication that there's something inherently wrong with the way she is currently written.
Sadly for all of us who enjoy her journey. The genre of the show and the books they were based on just so happens to be romance.
And the laws of the world building of Romance are as old and unchangeable as Literature itself, these laws dictate that main characters MUST have a love interest and MUST fall in love, then they MUST enter in a romantic relationship and therefore they MUST find joy and fulfillment in the concept of romantic experiences.
And yeah Eloise hates all of that, but Those are just the laws of the universe Eloise currently lives in. However much she fights against it, and gets angry at it and is this close to breaking the fourth wall just to escape from it. She has been saddled with the fate of Female Lead in a romance show.
That's why there's no repairing of her.
In fact if a fortune teller showed up at Violet's house one day and told all the Bridgerton daughters that their destiny has already been decided because they're the Heroines of a Romance tv show and the very universe will conspire for them to find true love. Daphne, Francesca and Hyacinth would be happy. Eloise would cry.
What a cruel fate for our unfortunate square peg in a world of circles. To be forced into a circle peg anyway because it's what her Genre of show demands of her.
Even more heartbreaking? Phillip, the guy destiny claims is her soulmate in the show? Is a perfectly written Romance Male lead. With no known flaws ( in the show at least) or desire to break away from the role he was cast into: that of a man meant to love and treasure Eloise. If only he knew his destined heroine wants to escape the Bridgerton universe with the intensity of an inmate planning a prison break.
Come to think of it, Every single main character around Eloise is content with their existence in a Romance Genre universe, all except Eloise. So of course there's something wrong with her, of course she gives off vibes that she doesn't belong. However much she keeps trying and trying to somehow break her loved ones out of it so they can see other genres available to them, they weren't written the way she was.
Furthermore as a modern audience proxy ( because that's what she was written as) she's rightfully terrified that the plot and the writers of the world she lives in are going to conspire and force her into being the romance heroine everyone says she should be.
Because make no mistake she IS going to be forced into it, there's no other way. Bridgerton wrote themselves into a dead end with her character development. And the only way the universe, the viewer and the reader see to improve the situation is to change Eloise to fit the parameters of her Romance Genre destiny.
Truth everyone finds hard to admit? Like I said at the beginning of the post: Eloise Bridgerton is only appealing to us as a character because she represents a project to repair. Nobody, me included, likes her just as she is. And it's about time we stop pretending otherwise.
As for me? It's already season 4 and I'm really too tired to keep doing mental gymnastics over how she's going to get her happy ending. It's time to go with the flow and accept whatever the show sees fit to give me.
But rest assured dear reader Netflix will make her plotline-personality lobotomy look painless and completely voluntary. Just wait and see.
Side note, I'm actually rooting for Phillip next season, maybe the Romance universe will be merciful and give him the Ron Stoppable sidekick to lover trope as a compensation package. Maybe not.
Moral of the story here for me is that I should learn to love main characters just as they are, bad character development included. And if I find myself making too many excuses for them after 4 seasons of being confused. Maybe I should just let the subject drop
And that's the tea for today
i just want them to make Eloise canonically asexual, find a dynamic intellectual friendship with a gay man, and have a lavender marriage. I'm not ace but deeply want to see more rep, and I feel like that genuinely makes sense for show!Eloise considering her politically radical disposition and desire for platonically sharp banter.
And I say this with all the kindness in the world. Because I really feel sad for you and the impossible situation you were put into as a fan.
" I'm sorry you were mislead into watching a show that has a genre you do not appear to enjoy"
Because every genre has laws. And every main character in them must abide by them. Action, Fantasy, Thriller, Romance. They all have certain demands they make in universe. Rules That can't be overwritten and must be obeyed.
And Romance? Its ancient law Requires romantic involvement. Probably the third oldest Genre of content known to mankind after Action (ancient epics) and Fantasy ( Religious mythology)
Romance as a genre its so ancient it has existed since mankind was able to write love poetry.
And Eloise is a main lead in the Bridgerton universe. Main genre? Romance, secondary genre: drama.
The laws of her universe will make her fall in love and find fulfillment in romance. It's what her Genre demands. And I really am sorry you were led to believe otherwise. Tricked into watching a show and rooting for a character that will eventually have to find a happy ending with a Romance Genre sort of storyline.
I wish I had Good news for you instead I'm just going to agree that your feelings are valid and it sucks Eloise isn't getting her own Political thriller spinoff.
And that's the tea
