Friendly reminder that in 1900, Charles Lightoller pranked the entire population of Sydney, Australia by rigging up a cannon to go off during the night and putting up a Boer flag at their fort, convincing the locals that their town had been invaded.

If anyone has read 2nd Officer Lightoller’s memoirs, Titanic and Other Ships, even he writes that the sinking was the result of a collection of circumstances that never happened before and can never happen again.

In another one of his fantastic articles, Titanic historian Paul Lee has collected all the accounts survivors have of witnessing the Titanic sink that are known to exist and has categorized them by location of the witnesses

What appears to be Captain Smith explains an engine telegraph to a young boy on the port side of the bridge on either the Olympic or Titanic. Wherever they are they appear to be going somewhere else relatively soon as both engines are set at “Stand By”

Lighting conditions are based on figures for the brightness of bulbs on the real Titanic. They were much dimmer back then, and had a far warmer appearance, sometimes to the point of being rather gloomy.
As these were basic tests, material properties, lighting, and shadows are not representative of final work and may look very different in the final game.
