Happy World Tuna Day, Monterey Bay Aquarium! 🐟
Aww thank you! You're tu-na kind 🐟
You have a TUMBLR?
We DO!!
I love your pride posts, they make me smile every time :)
❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🖤🤎
Hey, I dunno if you guys are the real monterey bay aquarium or just a gimmick blog, but I just wanted to say that me and my boyfriend of 5 years had our first date at here and that ill forever have good memories there :) thank you for being a wonderful place
We're really us :) Come back and visit again soon! 💙
Hi! I just wanna tell you guys that your account gives me life!! I visited the Aquarium with my parents in 2016 when we were on vacation (travelled all the way from Germany) and I had a wonderful time!! I love having your posts pop up here, and seeing how diverse and inclusive you are really gives me hope during these strange times! So thank you!!!
Also - my favourite animal (aside from every whale to exist, ever) is the horn shark, got any fun facts about it? :)
Thank you for your visit and ongoing support! Horn sharks have some pretty cool eggs! They are corkscrew shaped. This shape makes it possible for them to be wedged into crevices in the reef so that they don't float away—pretty cool!
some of my friends recently visited you and they sent me a little stuffed penguin! very cute little guy. here he is
i haven't thought of a good name for him yet, any suggestions?
Betty White loved the penguins at Monterey Bay Aquarium! Maybe you can name this penguin after her. We also have a penguin here named Rey, who is a local celebrity! Maybe these stories will spark some ideas :)
With a little help from her friends, our visually impaired penguin Rey learned a new way to eat — and showed us her peng-winning self.
hi monterey bay aquarium! i carve stamps and am currently completely out of ideas on what to carve. Do you have any suggestions?
(example of my work)
Love them! How about a deep-sea snailfish?
Hello! A five year old friend of mine recently visited your aquarium, and after discussing his visit we have questions for you!
How big are kelp crabs? He says they hide in kelp from predators — which predators? What do they eat? What is their life cycle like? Are there any other fun kelp crabs facts you can share?
Thank you so much for working to have an aquarium that reflects the whole ecosystem, and not just charismatic fauna (although the kelp crab now has at least two more people who think it’s charismatic).
Hi! Kelp crabs are definitely charismatic in their own way :)
Most kelp crabs don't get too big—maybe the size of an adult hand. They mainly eat algae, but they also supplement their diet with other invertebrates like mussels, barnacles, bryozoans, etc—especially when algae cover decreases in the winter.
Sea otters love to eat them! So do seabirds like gulls and some fish. One fun fact is kelp crabs, like other crabs, start their lives as tiny, free-swimming larvae.
Welcome to the kelp crab fan club! 🦀
anyways i show the kids at my work your youtube channel for calming stuff and they *love* it, very calming and theyre always amazed that the live streams are happening as they watch it
Thank you for sharing! 🩵
I love you

will yall do deep sea December again this year? I really wanted to participate last year but unfortunately I got slapped in the face with schoolwork :(
We love honoring the deep in the month of December! We might not have the same structure this year, but we'd still love to see your deep-sea art, so please upload and tag us!

🌎💚 We partner with planet-loving companies to reduce and eliminate plastic, one product at a time!
Real change can happen when we work together to protect the ocean from plastic pollution. We’ve partnered up to cut plastic out of the products you love. Out of our systems, out of our stores!
☕ Captain + Stoker: We ditched plastic bags and labels in favor of fully reusable and recyclable steel coffee cans, now available for purchase in the Aquarium Store.
👕 Liberty Graphics: we brought back our vintage otter tee with plastic-free packaging, raising funds for our important conservation programs along the way. (Shirts are still available as a gift with donation!)
🍺 Alvarado Street Brewery and Fruition Brewing: We worked together to create signature beers inspired by the ocean, with original artwork printed directly on the can to skip plastic shrink labels entirely.
Small packaging changes can create a big ocean impact. We can make a world without plastic that’s healthier for people and our ocean planet.

Protect California's coasts!
No matter where you live, you can speak up and take action now to protect the coast of California from offshore drilling.
The Trump administration's plan for new offshore oil and gas drilling in federal waters is expected any day. If finalized, drilling could begin off the California coast as soon as next year.
We need you—our Aquarium Tumblr community—to act right now.
📣 California residents: Tell your lawmakers to vote YES on AB 1448—closing loopholes that let old infrastructure fuel new drilling. Submit by August 3.
📣 Everyone: Tell NOAA to keep California's coastal protections strong. NOAA needs to hear from everyone who loves the California coast, no matter where you live. Public comments are due August 22.
Our coast can't wait. Take action now:
Take two actions to stop federal offshore drilling off California's coast.
What bin does it go in? ♻️🌿🗑️
The Monterey Bay Aquarium teamed up with Trinity to find out what bin everyday waste items belong in: recycle, compost, or trash. ♻️🌿🗑️
As she puts her sorting skills to the test, we’re also focused on how we can get plastic out of our system—before it becomes waste in the first place. This Plastic Free July, we’re reminded that reducing the waste we create, reusing what we can, and properly disposing of what’s left helps prevent plastic pollution from reaching marine habitats and the animals that depend on them. 🌊

Harmful changes to Endangered Species Act
Now, more changes to the Endangered Species Act by the current administration continue to attack crucial parts of the law to protect habitat and newly listed species.
These changes prioritize harmful development over science-based management and make it harder to put species on a path to recovery.
A healthy marine ecosystem is essential to support biodiversity and save endangered species. We need an Endangered Species Act and management guided by science and expertise that puts the environment first.
