All 10 gallons. One fully cherry shrimp and ramshorns. One is harlequin, betta, kuhli, amano, and snails. Third is awaiting yellow shrimp (neocaridina). I take care of my aquatic children very well.

I wanted to make my school of 4 (previously 7) harlequins less lonely so I bought 2 new ones. Apparently the newbies were lambchop but the older ones adopted the smaller ones (:

Tip:

Use filter intake sponges covers. Aquarium Co-op sells some. Most pet store do as-well.

They keep your filter from getting clogged (Snails, fry, baby shrimp) with decaying matter and also provide more filter capacity.

Tip:

What to do with dirty aquarium water.

First of all, pour it down the toilet. If you have stray plant matter in there, it won’t  clog the toilet because the toilet is designed for that. A drain of any kind will get clogged at some point.

Second, if you don’t want to waste it, use it as fertilizer. Water your plants or your garden with it. Plants on land use the same stuff as aquatic ones, and dirty aquarium water has a lot of nitrate. My mom uses my water for her plants.

Tip:

If you have a lot of loose moss on your gravel and it keeps on clogging the siphon, rubber band a coarse net over it to solver the problem. Release the suction of the siphon if moss bits get stuck on the net (stop water flow by bending tube fully).

My mom says my algae tree is ugly. I like it. Also the algae bush under it is where my kuhlis rest. I Imagine it is very soft and comfy for them.

This is why I don’t remove it. It is strategically kept.

Rip stellar the dwarf gourami. He was great. He unfortunately had some kind of genetic disease and his spine started to bend into a letter S.
