I did a redesign of the Kilnish sophont I’ve posted before. Some lore/changes I made:

-The Kilnish live on a planet smaller than Earth, with about 65% of its gravity.

-The ridges on their “fingers” are actually their olfactory organs.

-I changed their digestive system so that instead of ingesting food through “mouths” on their feet, their mouth is now on their underside, and whatever they do not digest they regurgitate in the form of hard pellets (much like Earth owls).

-The Kilnish are now herbivores, instead of carnivores like I originally designed them to be. They mostly eat fruit, which their dexterous “hands” help to pluck off of branches.

I support people using my designs in their fan projects as I believe in fair use.

The Quillbird is a species originally domesticated by the Oculonts to help with tracking prey. The spines on their heads and necks assist in communicating with one another, and intimidation. Unlike the Oculonts, the Quillbirds have no set breeding season, and the males are always brightly colored (much like Earth peacocks). As a result of this, many different “breeds” of Quillbirds have been created to have certain colors on their faces or specific coat patterns.

I’m practicing poses for my original alien species, and decided to draw a young Dun. The hooves look a lot better, although I think I made the front legs a bit too long.

I’ll be posting a polished and colored version later, along with a drawing of some other native Cadmeian lifeforms and their lore.

@iguanodont Thanks for doing a Revenge of Whitethroat! You’re one of the artists that inspired me to start drawing spec bio stuff, especially after I saw the video Curious Archive did about you.

New sophont I made called Oculonts. They live on a tidally locked world roughly the size of Earth (called Oculus) orbiting a red dwarf star named Polyphemus. They communicate primarily through flashes of bioluminescence and pheromones, though of course they have written languages and such. One thing I forgot to illustrate/write in the image here is the fact that over many generations, they’ve developed a special layer of tissue that hosts a species of algae or moss-like organism (which is black-purple in coloration due to Polyphemus’s relatively weak light). In exchange for better access to sunlight, Oculonts receive energy from their guests. In recent times, Oculonts have also genetically engineered compatible plants that produce energy more efficiently, or are aesthetically pleasing.

Theory about Talita’s backstory… What if she’s the kid of one of the Runaway’s original crew members? Bip talked about how the clan wasn’t *planning* on having kids during the time he was a part of the crew. Maybe one of the clan members had a kid with an unrelated worker, and they decided to drop off Talita at the adoption center to avoid clashing with the matriarch? (Although I can’t think as to why they wouldn’t just cull her, plus any littermates she might’ve had). This would explain as to how she ended up on Nexus Jovia even though there were no records of centaurs visiting. The alternative would be that Talita somehow wandered off from the crew, and someone saw her and thought bringing her to the adoption center was the best course of action.

Meet Whitethroat, a character I’m doing for this year’s Artfight (Team Mystery). He has asymmetrical crest patterns (plus a super thick patch of white fur on his neck) due to a series of genetic mutations. I ended up redesigning the face and crests quite a bit, since I have had two (2) mini breakdowns trying to draw the original ones from the front. His species is also now called Cadmeians. Another alien species I designed for my sci fi novel. This individual’s colors are based off of Eastern Screech Owls, and Lovebirds.
