I just want Jonah Kinlock to have a good day
Unfortunately, he has very bad luck.
I’m going to start referring to Jack Swift fans as Swifties.
I have this headcanon that Jonah’s mom didn’t like the fact that Jonah was an Enchanter. Hear me out. Jonah’s parents knew about what was happening to the kids at Thorn Hill because, despite the memory manipulation, they were on the committee deciding what was going to happen to the kids who were being experimented on, deciding plans of action. This would mean that Jonah’s mom knew exactly what was happening to him and how his weirstone was being altered to allow him to expel poison from his skin. Further, at the beginning of The Enchanter Heir, he has a memory of his mom telling him “[p]eople will always be willing to do things for you because you’re an enchanter, because of your gifts of empathy, charisma, and persuasion. But that’s wrong, Jonah. You need to learn to do things for yourself.” (Just saying this line definitely affected him negatively in his life.) We also know that Jonah never met another Enchanter or had even seen one until seeing Linda Downey in Trinity at the Interguild Council meeting. So my thinking is that Jonah’s mom intentionally tried to keep him away from Enchanters so that he could not develop his gift well and learn how to properly enchant people because she was worried of what he was going to become in the future and was worried that he would begin enchanting people so that he can kill them in the war that Gabriel was planning against the Wizards. I think that her intentions were good but she ended up hurting Jonah and stunting his magical growth. I also think that Jonah’s mom wanted what was best for the Underguilds, especially since she was on that council, and in a way, saw that if she can use Jonah as a bit of a sacrifice for that then the rest of the Underguildlings would be spared, such as Kenzie and Marcy he other two kids that she wanted to protect. At the same time she didn’t fully want to give up Jonah even though it seemed like the right thing to her, so she tried to set him on the right track by keeping him from learning how to use his abilities and telling him that he should do everything independently, constantly reinforcing that lesson in him. Once again, though her intentions were good with that, he ended up hating being an Enchanter when he was older and being harmfully independent.
Thanks for listening to me yap!
