so here’s the expert take, even if your apartment is like 95% ikea stuff, the 8 pounds of frozen ikea meatballs you bought still won’t taste as good as they do when you actually eat them in ikea. they’ll just taste like bad meatballs you’re eating off a burnt up cookie sheet, but at least you didn’t spend money on takeout today, am i right? let me tell you, the seven dollars or whatever you save by not eating out, at least for me, is never seven dollars i then use to somehow better my life. it’s not the seven dollars i’ll someday put toward buying a cradle for my firstborn child. it’s just seven dollars delayed by a matter of hours. whenever i’m at work and people talk about making lunch vs buying lunch in my head i’m like, maybe if i was the happiest guy on earth i wouldn’t mind making a sandwich for lunch, but i need to buy lunch for my mental health. i don’t have a rewarding enough life to get by on the food i could make for myself. if i don’t buy lunch how will i know what the highlight of my day is? time will just blur together.
