Green // - It stopped raining this afternoon just long enough to squeeze in a nice ride from the shop and back again. It reminded me of when I was at Penn State back in 1995 when we’d have long stretches of rain and it would stop just long enough between class for me to squeeze in a ride. My EDC // - Or perhaps more appropriately, my ERC aka “Every Ride Carry”. - Some of you asked what comes along on every ride, here’s my bare bones kit. Wolftooth 8-bit Pack Pliers. Probably the best multitool on the market that combines a pair of master link pliers with space for a master link and 8 metric bits. Spare tube (29”). Lezyne Grip Drive HV pump. 7Mesh vest. Inside the Backcountry Research pouch is: Emergency Blanket, Dynaplug Pill, Park glueless patch kit, dollar bill for a sidewall slash, Pedro’s tire lever, two zip ties and a spare masterlink. Also a small ziplock bag in case I find a tick that’s embedded (in the bag they go and get sent out to be tested-I don’t mess around anymore). I usually carry a tire boot but recently used it and haven’t replaced it. Last but not least a Mercator K55K knife. Not pictured is a cell phone, my keys and my wallet. - Note I have two hip packs. One Rat Pack is the current 14x4.5x5.5 inch hip pack. This one will carry a second water bottle but typically I use this one when I’m riding my hardtail which can carry 2 bottles. This one’s been a bit personalized and has skull mileage counter beads on the zipper pulls and my Father’s “Voodoo Medicine Man” patch from his squadron (60th Fighter Interceptor Squadron) during his tour during the Vietnam War. - The other bag is a 2nd prototype Rat Pack that’s a bit bigger with more capacity and more internal storage. I’ve been testing this one in all kinds of scenarios and conditions but it fits a spare bottle comfortably so I take this on longer rides when I’m riding my FS. It’s nice to have options.
