It infuriates me when people complain about aspects of society and it feels like there is just a simple explanation.
As a teen I mentioned how people should talk about their wages at work and my dad said, "Trust me, I've been on the other side of that. It's not fair to put that pressure on management." And I just thought, like... ?? then put pressure further up the line? If your employees want higher wages, and you can't support that, then that's the fault of somebody higher up, and you need to apply that pressure. And I could easily be wrong about this, but it feels like nobody even proposes it.
Or my friend who said her parents are landlords and she *used* to be supportive of renters being allowed pets, but then she had to go help them clean up cat piss out of the carpet and like. Ok, first, replace the carpet. but SECONDLY, maybe the people with pets should be able to just OWN THE HOUSE. Maybe if it was their own property, they would be more likely to take proper care of it? Maybe you owning the property and maintaining that investment costs money?
The point is not that the solution is easy. It just feels like people get caught up in preventing immediate consequences instead of just recognizing the flaws in the environment.
