Ignored By Big Telecom, Detroitâs Marginalized Communities Are Building Their Own Internet
40 percent of Detroit residents donât have any access to internet at all.
Nucera is part of a growing cohort of Detroiters who have started a grassroots movement to close that gap, by building the internet themselves. Itâs a coalition of community members and multiple Detroit nonprofits. Theyâre starting with three under-served neighbourhoods, installing high speed internet that beams shared gigabit connections from an antenna on top of the tallest building on the street, and into the homes of people who have long gone without. They call it the Equitable Internet InitiativeâŚÂ [more]

Keep fighting. We have less than a month until the FCCs plans go to the house. Make your opinion known.
The head of the Federal Communications Commission is set to unveil plans next week for a final vote to reverse a landmark 2015 net neutrality order barring the blocking or slowing of web content, two people briefed on the plans said.

Use RESISTBOT and text 50409, it will automatically find your congress representatives and fax them for you. Â
This issue isnât going to go away without public outcry, it takes about a minute to send a message and have it forwarded to reps.
The Federal Communications Commission will vote to put an end to its net neutrality rules next month, commission chairman Ajit Pai said today. The proposal will reverse the Title II classification...
This is a fantastic article that paints a very concise picture of the Internet communityâs upcoming battle. It is not all doom and gloom. And there is still a chance to beat the current red controller FCC. Call your representative. And find ways to support net neutrality and what it stands for.
Ajit Pai has his own agenda and big ISP ties as he was a former lawyer for Verizon. He doesnât speak for the people. Only for himself.
Also. As Eddie Huang so eloquently said. This man has no fade or shape up. Who shaves their head without a fade or shape up.
Fight back. Voice your opinion. Call your representatives. This country belongs to the people who live in it. Not the mega corporations who view us as commodities and seek to control us.
Save the net. Fight the FCC
Anyone interested in net neutrality should start reading motherboard. Or anyone interested in tech for that matter.
Please click the above link to sign a petition requesting Ajit Pai's removal as FCC chairman. This is just another step to show that the American public does not agree with his decision to forcibly repeal net neutrality.

Wireless internet access is on the rise in both modern consumer societies and in the developing world. In rich countries, however, the focus is on always-on connectivity and ever higher access speeds. In poor countries, on the other hand, connectivity is achieved through much more low-tech, often asynchronous networks.
While the high-tech approach pushes the costs and energy use of the internet higher and higher, the low-tech alternatives result in much cheaper and very energy efficient networks that combine well with renewable power production and are resistant to disruptions.
If we want the internet to keep working in circumstances where access to energy is more limited, we can learn important lessons from alternative network technologies. Best of all, thereâs no need to wait for governments or companies to facilitate: we can build our own resilient communication infrastructure if we cooperate with one another. This is demonstrated by several community networks in Europe, of which the largest has more than 35,000 users already.
Rebloggin because; holy shit; this is really cool and if there were some way to implement this in the US to get out of the thumb of big telecomâŚ
Rebloggin because, if Net Neutrality is murdered, we need to start getting onto this locallyâŚ
