I really can't understand how this fandom can reconcile the idea that Tamlin is an abuser and physically abused Feyre with the idea that Rhysand did absolutely the right thing by drugging Feyre and sexually and physically assaulting her. What the hell??

It makes me laugh when people say Tamlin is full of toxic masculinity. This is an absolute lie. Tamlin does not fit into the concept of “toxic masculinity”, unlike the same Rhysand, Cassian and Asriel. Let’s even take his hair length as tritely. Do you think it is included in the concept of masculinity? But this is not the main reason. Toxic masculinity focuses not only on appearance, but also on character traits and behavior. And these character traits: imperiousness, cruelty, the “way of the warrior,” unwillingness to admit one’s mistakes, self-confidence, lack of compassion for others, and most importantly, lack of empathy.

Tamlin literally has NOTHING on this list. He does not like his power, he always tried to be softer, resorting to an orderly tone in extreme cases. imperiousness is definitely not his character trait. And Tamlin is certainly not cruel. Never. He is the complete opposite of his father, and he himself is disgusted with hurting and bullying others. Even over his enemies. He even killed Amaranta quickly, although he could have left her to slowly die and torture her, as she tortured Feyre. Also, he is not a typical warrior and he himself did not want to be one. He loves music much more than the art of war, and wanted to be not a warrior, but a wandering musician. Tamlin knows how and can admit his mistakes and apologize. He admitted that he was wrong when he locked Feyre up, apologized to her and tried to improve. He is also not overconfident. Rather, on the contrary, he has little self-confidence, but does not turn this into a problem for others, unlike Cassian. And he is full of compassion. Literally in the very first book, he calms down an unfamiliar fairy who was thrown into his Court, and takes pity on him before his death. He sympathizes with Feyre, who grew up in poverty and lack of love; it was precisely because of his compassion and pity that he left Lucien to live in his Court. And for the same reason, he is very empathic towards others. He perfectly felt Feyre in the first book and Lucien's pain after the loss of his beloved. Only in the second book does he stop noticing Feyre’s condition, but there is a reason: he is also deeply traumatized and his way of dealing with this trauma is to stop noticing it, to pretend that everything is fine and that all the worst things are in the past. Just try to forget this nightmare, pretend that it didn’t happen. There was no all this death and pain, as if they remained in a completely different life. This is actually a very common reaction many people have to experiencing trauma, and I don't see how that makes Tamlin a bad person. I think that in this way Tamlin tried to distract Feyre, tried to show that everything was in the past and she had nothing to fear anymore. He might have thought that it would be easier for both of them this way. Just don’t remember their nightmare and that’s it. Based on all of the above, Tamlin certainly does not fit into the example of toxic masculinity.

Do you know who fits in perfectly? Rhysand and his batboys. Throughout all the books, Rhysand was an imperious high lord, confident in himself and his decisions, even to the point of stupidity, such as sending the not yet fully trained Feyre to the Weaver, not caring that she could kill her. Just like Cassian, but Cassian himself hides deep complexes behind his ostentatious self-confidence and is in fact the most insecure man in the books. And because of his insecurities, he makes others suffer, especially Nesta. They are also all full of cruelty. Rhysand and Asriel literally enjoy the suffering of others and love torturing others, considering it something cool. Cassian massacred an entire village, including women. I very much doubt that the ENTIRE village bullied his mother. They also lack pity and compassion for others; they do not know how to admit their mistakes and apologize. Rhysand doesn't care about the pain he caused Feyre, he never even apologized to her for it. Didn't talk about how much he regrets what he did. Do you know why? He doesn't regret... He also doesn't care about the pain that women in Illyria and the Hewn City go through. Otherwise, he would have long ago tightened the laws related to cutting wings and violence, and would have imposed strict rules. He didn't do any of this. Omg you’re totally right. The spring court is the place to be! Honestly I don’t why people overreact about the whole tithe thing. Yeah, Tamlin will hunt you if you can’t pay the tithe but it is what it is.

Tamlins totally ethical, logical, and right about hunting anyone who can’t pay their taxes because what about his servants? They need those fish! They will die without it!!!!

And I totally agree. Tamlin is a great high lord. The spring court is a wonderful place to be. And being one of his servants would be amazing. Yeah, they may have to clean up after him when he has magical outbursts, but they get all they can eat fish. What a dream. And honestly we should be more like Tamlin. I don’t know why the IRS hasn’t started hunting people down who can’t pay their taxes. They should start doing that. We really need to take a page out of tamlin’s book. Debt collectors should be allowed to kill anyone who owns them money after three day grace period. Honestly tamlin’s progressive for offering them a whole three days - what a compassionate king.

I love the spring court and Tamlin. It would be a lovely place to live. It’s a utopia and Tamlins the best high lord to ever exist. He’s so great. Love that guy! So glad i finally matured enough to realize that Tamlin is just a nice guy doing his best and Feyre’s the evil bitch who destroyed everything!

What Lucien said is expected to happen and what Tamlin actually does is directly challenged on page. It's expected of him, because of tradition, to hunt down people who refuse to pay taxes. But what he actually do? Offers them to pay it within three day of double next tithe. Wchich is a very fair system to have and is another case of Tamlin defying tradition.

We have no proof of him ever hunting down someone who can't pay their taxes. It used to be an expectation before he was a high lord and as we already established Tamlin don't stick to custioms practiced by the father he hated. In fact we know that the way Tamlin rules his court is so non-traditional that the corrupted nobility of Spring left the Court after he took ober and refused to rule it like his father did

Tithe is a tax that is based on giving 1/10 of what you earned to the state. It's lower that taxes majority of people have to pay in real life and it's more fair because it taxes rich people more than the poor due to them earning more

Water Wraiths should be able to pay that tax. They weren't starving nor were they poor. We are told by multiple characters what's the deal with water wraiths and I sugest you should reread acotar and actually pay attention to what they say about them

The only high lord with rooms full of treasure is Rhysand and as far as we had seen Tamlin appears to be least wealthy of the high lords. I guess it makes him most evil in some people's eyes lol. Also, how do you think he gets all his money? Perhaps from tithe He collects from the rich fae that pay with coin? But how dare he tax the rich, thats evil🙃

I don't have energy at 5 am to explain to you how rural society opearates and how taxes work. You should know that already. Reread acotar and pay more attention this time
