“Learning is the treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.” - Chinese Proverb
For the past month and a half, I’ve been studying LSAT on and off because my MBA program started in November which was an very unpredictable schedule. During that time, I’ve been reading from The Loophole book and completed two practice test (both 158) since gaining a 160.
I am giving myself from now till Friday, February 19th to gain an average LR score of 23+ correct out of 26.
Since I have classes on Monday and Wednesday (I will only complete one LR drill on those days along with Tuesday which willl be reserved as my MBA study day)
Monday - MBA studying (1 LR drill)
Tuesday - MBA studying (1 LR drill)
Wednesday - MBA studying (1 LR drill)
Thursday - Read Materials + 3 Drills
Friday - Read Materials + 3 Drills
Saturday - Practice Test
Sunday - Review + Read Materials
Thursday, November 19th, 2020 - January LSAT
I cannot believe I got a 160 on my LSAT practice exam because I was very tired. LR (-7), AR (-2), RC (-12), LR (-6). Unfortunately, I thought I was making major gains with RC (weakest area). So, I am going to start employing these tips I gathered from a long list of successful LSAT takers who told me:
1. Read for structure: how does the paragraphs relate to each other...highlight the main point/purpose of each [Visualization; turn the passage into a visual storyline or movie]
2. determine whether the passage is to 1) inform, 2) explain, or 3) dispute [typically identified by the author’s tone from the first paragraph]
3. decipher the author’s perspective from the character’s [ highlight only the author’s]
4. acknowledge shift in ideas: but, however, moreover, additional, contrary
5. Know the consistent answering strategies for Main Point, Author’s attitude, Inference, Role/Structure of Passage, and Context of a Term
6. Lastly, improve short-term memory and comprehension ability. [SuperLearner, Phrasereader.com, Spreeder.com]
RC Question Types: **identify the subject of the question stem (is it the author or character) then match an answer to that person in the passage**
Main Point: either generalized summary or final point of the author
Inference: facts of the passage most likely equals the answer (refer back to the area of the passage where the term is or rely on memory)
Organization: ask is the passage doing this?
Title: similar to main point/overview of the passage
Mentioned Detail/Must Be True: facts from the passage; common trick is that detail is mentioned but is not at the place in reference
Author’s purpose: how does the quote relate to that particular sentence and section; always reflect back to confirm answer [beware extremes]
Weakeners: identify the main point of the sentence in evaluation and termite which outside information will weaken that point
I am going to try out these methods for 2-timed passages (8 mins each) and see how i do. Then work on my memory and comprehension with SuperLearner practice drills.
LSAT Prep Day 12 - November 8th: November 11th LSAT Exam
I’ve been MIA because I’ve just been ACCEPTED INTO USC MBA program. However, it has been a struggle finding funding to attend.
Anyways, today, I’ve turned back to solely doing RC drills and one logic game once a day. I will be completing 3 RC drills and report back on my score.
LSAT Prep Day 9 to 11- October 20 to 22nd: November 7th LSAT Exam
I’ve completed skimming through chapter 10 to 15 regarding logic games as well as completed PT 72 Logic Game section (22/23 correct) and PT 73 Logic Game section (21/23 correct). In order to maintain my high altitude for logic games, I plan to do one game each prep day in addition to my reading drills or logical reasoning drill.
LSAT Prep Day 7 & 8 - October 14th & 15th: November 7th LSAT Exam
“Family is the first school.”
Yesterday, I obtained a 17/27 again :( on my RC drill but today I dropped to a 11/27. The lack of sleep has been the biggest factor in my low score today. Last night, I only had 4 hours of sleep and this afternoon I had a 2 hours nap.
This is all due to me trying to increase my milk supply through exclusive pumping. I’ve decided that I will set up a routine for myself and daughter that will go like this:
3 AM: Pump for 30 mins
8 AM: Pump for 30 mins while completing a Logic Game Session
9 AM: Pump for 25 mins while reading The LSAT Trainer
10 AM: Pump for 20 mins while reading The LSAT Trainer
11 AM: Pump for 15 mins while reading The LSAT Trainer
12 PM - 4 PM: Study in Conference room
4 PM: Pump for 30 mins
7 PM: Pump for 30 mins
9 PM: Power pump
10 PM: Power pump again + give baby her final bottle
11 PM: Bedtime
“Study or Nap?!” - I’ve been asking this question since college.
LSAT Prep Day 6 - October 12th: November 7th LSAT Exam
“Top scorers have specific habits for solving specific question types.”
This picture represents my typical LSAT Prep Day: portable breast pumps, hand-sanitizer, my glass water bottle, my notebook planner, and my logical reasoning connectivity cheat sheets.
Today, I started using the LawHub website to complete my reading comprehension drill. It took me awhile to figure out the highlighting feature but I obtained a 17/27. I was also able to write out some new connections I’ve made with the help of the first 6 chapters of The LSAT Trainer.
I decided that I will skim through Chapter 10 to 15 in The LSAT Trainer because I have done pretty well in Logic Games. Hopefully, tomorrow, I can workout for an hour and complete 4 hours of studying.
LSAT Prep Day 5 - October 11th: November 7th LSAT Exam
“Recognizing flaws is the key reasoning skill, and recognizing arguments is the key reading skill.”
I got a 16/27 on my reading comp. drill today because 1. I misread a passage and 2. I didn’t get to start passage 4. I need to develop a time strategy for my next reading comp. drill tomorrow. Also, I was able to complete Chapter 9 in LSAT Trainer about understanding flaws in the best ways (over-extrapolating, falsely-associating, and bringing information together incorrectly). I was suppose to take a practice exam today but felt underprepared, so next Sunday!
LSAT Prep Day 3 & 4 - October 9th & 10th: November 7th Exam
“We are what we repeatedly do, EXCELLENCE is not an act but a HABIT.”
I’m so happy to obtain some of my reading comp. momentum back. I went from getting only 8 correct to 17 out of 27 in only two days of drilling. My goal is to obtain a consistent minimum 24 out of 27. I completed Chapter 8 in the LSAT Trainer.
LSAT Prep Day 2 - October 8th: November 7th LSAT Exam
“Pain and uncertainty are uncomfortable, but discomfort is a catalyst.”
I completed LSAT Trainer Chapter 7 and full reading comprehension drill in which I have lost my momentum in this session due to my postpartum break. I plan to drill RC every prep day for the month of October. Yay!
LSAT Prep Day 1 - October 7th: November 7th LSAT Exam
“The Best Way to ensure SUCCESS is to DESERVE it”
I’ve completed Lesson 6 of LSAT Trainer which discussed logical reasoning flaws. I decided that I will need to monitor my studying time and hold myself more accountable because I have started to take gaps in between study days.
LSAT Study List - Postpartum: Student & Mom
Postpartum healing is no joke. I thought I would be up and running but it’s now week 3 and I am still healing. In addition to healing physically, I am learning time management in terms of being a new mom with endless doctor appointments, feeding sessions, pumping sessions, diaper changes...and the list goes on.
I decided that a list rather than a schedule may provide the much needed flexibility for studying for the LSAT. From Monday to Friday, I will aim to complete AT LEAST 3 HOURS of LSAT studying with a practice test once a week. I plan to take on different section/subject each day. For instance, I will tackle for Reading Comp. drill today and Logical Reasoning drill tomorrow.
Here is my list to complete by September 30th:

Postpartum Study Plans
My little love bug arrived about two weeks ago. I have been using the past two weeks to heal and figure out an appropriate schedule around my new 24hr job as a mom. For 2 weeks, my vag was so swollen that I couldn’t sit or stand for longer than 10 minutes and my breast were so painfully filled with milk. Now, I have a hemorrhoid the size of a quarter.
Anyways, I decided to extend my LSAT study schedule to accommodate for my month-long healing process and postpone my LSAT exam for a later date. I will constantly need to redefine the schedule because of the unpredictability of being a new mom (moving back to New York, raising a baby as a single parent, etc)
Starting on Thursday, August 28th (Day 13 of Postpartum), I will be starting my new study schedule below in which I will study for a minimum of 3 hours. I am accepting all positive prayers!!!
Things I am Still Learning: The LSAT Version
Taking a break doesn’t mean I’m a failure.
Struggling does not mean I’m failing.
It’s okay to set Goals but DON’T put a time limit on Growth - it can happen anytime.
Not giving my mind time and space to recharge is unproductive.
It’s important to be patient with myself while I adjust and adapt to new concepts.
