❄️Le Prince de la Banquise / The Prince of the Ice Floe❄️
I was contacted this week by a French team working on a short film combining live action and animation, centered around polar bears.
This is both an ecologic driven project about respecting wildlife and polar environments, and a heartfelt tribute to this incredible animal, led by creator Tiffany Amisse.
The short will also be universally accessible, as it contains no dialogue and will be carried entirely by its sound design and musical atmosphere. The animated parts will also bring a more dreamlike, almost magical side to the story.
Here's the synopsis:
"Atka, the last polar bear of his kind, continues his solitary life on the ice floe. One day, as he walks beneath the Arctic sky, an aurora borealis begins to dance before him. Unaware, a mystical force passes through him. He keeps moving forward, as if nothing has changed.
But when sleep comes, magic takes over: in his dreams, a vivid imaginary world appears. The ice glows with color, the horizon lights up. There, he finds his own again; his family, other polar bears. Atka is happy, carried by the illusion of a world still alive.
But a dark force begins to fracture this luminous dream… turning it into a nightmare. Brutally torn from his sleep, he opens his eyes once more to the frozen emptiness, faced with a truth he cannot escape.
He understands.
He is the last one."
I've already had a chance to take a look at the illustrator's and composers' work, and imo it looks incredibly promising. It already feels like a high-quality project in the making :D
