I have to ask another history buff: could the French Revolution have been realistically avoided?

Part of me would like to say yes, but given how rigid French society was in the 18th century, and centuries before that, I think it was unavoidable. I do not know a lot about French history aside from the big historical events and people, but I don’t believe there was any sort of protection of rights for the third estate until the Declaration of The Rights of Man was written. That lack of protection allowed for the first two estates to really take advantage of the peasants and bourgeoisie.That is why I feel it’s difficult to compare the French Revolution to the American Revolution. The American colonists were not being included in a government that they legally were entitled to be included in while the French had no say what so ever in their government.Hopefully I answered your question rather than just a ramble of 18th century squabbles but that’s my take on it.
