๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐: 4EVER by Clairo
synopsis: In his new relationship thatโs going perfectly, Ky is afraid of commitment, so when his girl mentions matching pajamas for a couples night with Jabari and Jimmy, heโs horrified.
warnings: language, mentions of smoking, mentions of sex
pairings: Ky x black!reader (for my better understanding i named the character Kala but you could always change or add your name instead!) ๐
authors note: first time writing for Ky, also trying something different with my writing style, I decided to cut up the story into chapters like the actual movie (Entergalatic btw) hope you like it!

Ky sat back in his chair, a few papers spread out in front of him. The quietness of the coffee shop was supposed to help him focus on his project, but instead, his mind kept wandering. Kala was sitting across from him, typing away on her laptop, her curly hair bouncing every time she tilted her head.
It was supposed to be a simple study dateโjust two people working side by side. But Ky hadnโt expected to be distracted by the way she smiled when she got something right, or how her laugh sounded almost alluring. She wasnโt just the pretty girl from some random as party anymore. She was smart, confident, and so effortlessly cool.
As Kala watched a video for her proposal, an another Stush ad popped up glowing on her screen. โMaybe I should get on Stushโ Kala said, looking at Ky with a grin.
He chuckled โNah, youโre joking right?โ
โYep, just needed to get your attention. So, how does this look for the project?โ Kalaโs voice broke through his wandering thoughts about her joining Stush and going on dozens of horrible dates, funny, he thought. Sheโd been talking about deadlines since she switched the topic, but Ky hadnโt really been paying attention. He was too busy watching her eyes light up when she spoke about her passion for her art.
"Uhโฆ Yeah. Looks good," Ky mumbled, glancing down at his phone. He didnโt want to seem too obvious, but he was feeling... something. Something he hadnโt felt in a while. Something like attention. From her.
"You're really not listening, huh?" she teased, raising an eyebrow.
Ky chuckled, leaning forward. โNah, I heard you. Iโm just, uh... really into this new track Iโm working on.โ
Kalaโs eyes softened. "I get it. You're always working on something."
Kyโs grin widened. โYeah, thatโs me. Ky, the workaholic.โ
โMore like Ky, the distracted workaholic,โ Kala laughed, nudging him. "What is it, though? You look like you're in another world."
Ky shifted awkwardly, unsure how to respond. He didnโt want to admit that he was thinking about herโhow her laugh had wormed its way into his thoughts, how the way she looked at him made his heart race. It felt weird, especially since he didnโt do relationships. Didnโt do commitment.
Just as he was about to deflect, Jabari and Jimmy entered the coffee shop, acting like they owned the place, loud as ever.
โYo, Ky, you still here with the school stuff?โ Jabari asked, slinging an arm around his friendโs shoulder.
"Yeah, man, just catching up," Ky replied, but his eyes flickered to Kala, who had already gone back to her work.
Jabari glanced at Kala and gave a smirk. "So, you two finally going out? Or whatโs the deal?"
Kyโs heart skipped a beat. He wasnโt ready for that conversation yet. โNah, man. Itโs just a study session. No big deal.โ
โSure, sure. But you know, we got that couples night coming up,โ Jimmy piped up, nudging Ky. "You in? You gotta bring a girl, right?"
Ky froze, a sharp tug of panic in his chest. โCouples night? Nah, that sounds like... a lot. Not really my thing.โ
But Kala had overheard and smiled. โI think it sounds cute,โ she said, her eyes twinkling. โA night with matching pajamas? Thatโs just adorable.โ
Ky blinked, not knowing how to respond. "Matching... pajamas?" he repeated, his mind whirling.
"Yeah! You know, those cute sets where everyone looks like they belong in a magazine," she explained, half-laughing. "Itโd be fun!"
Kyโs stomach churned. Matching pajamas? Was this how relationships went? Was he really this into her, that heโd even think about wearing matching PJs?

Later that night, Ky couldnโt sleep. He tossed and turned, thinking about Kalaโs smile and the idea of matching pajamas.
"This is crazy," he muttered to himself, running a hand through his hair. He wasnโt the type for this kind of thingโcommitment, labels, matching anything. He liked things casual. He liked things easy. But this... felt different. Too different.
He grabbed his phone and sent a message to Jabari:
Ky: Yo, I donโt know about this couples night thing. I donโt even know if Iโm ready for that kind of... thing.
Jabari: Bruh, itโs just a night with the crew. Stop acting like itโs a proposal.
Ky: Yeah, but like, she wants matching PJs. And thatโs... way too much for me, you know?
A few moments later, Jabari responded with a voice note.
Jabari (in the voice note): โYo, listen. If she wants to match pajamas with you, thatโs a good thing. You think itโs weird? Itโs not. Youโre scared, man. But hereโs the thing, Ky. You know youโre feeling her. And sheโs feeling you. We both know this way past sex and feeling eachother up by now. The real question is, are you gonna let her in, or are you gonna keep acting like a pussy?โ
Ky sat back, thinking over Jabariโs words. It was true. He was feeling her. More than heโd ever expected. But was he really ready to commit to something that wasnโt just about "hanging out"?

The night of the event came quickly, and Ky was in full panic mode. He stood in his apartment, staring at the pile of pajamas Kala had suggested they wear. Heโd let her pick them out, but now, seeing them laid out on his bed, he wondered if heโd made a huge mistake.
His phone buzzed. It was Kala.
Kala (in a text): โCanโt wait for tonight! I hope youโre ready to be matchy-matchy with me. ๐โ
Ky couldnโt help but grin, but his nerves were still on edge. He typed back quickly:
Ky: โIโm ready. Just donโt judge me if I look weird.โ
She replied with a heart emoji, and he felt a rush of warmth. He hadnโt expected thisโher. He didnโt know how to label it, but he knew he didnโt want to walk away from whatever this was.
When he met her at some part, though he was half high, Kala was everything heโd imagined and moreโher natural beauty, her radiant smile, and that undeniable aura of confidence. The matching pajamas felt like the least of his worries now, because when she hugged him, it felt... right.
"See?" Kala laughed, stepping back and twirling. "We look cute."
Ky smiled for the first time that night, realizing that matching pajamas were the least important thing. It was the moment they were sharing. The laughter. The ease. The connection.
"Yeah, we do," Ky said, taking her hand. "Guess this is what they call a real date, huh?"
Kala squeezed his hand. "I think so."
As the night went on, Ky and Kala found themselves surrounded by their friendsโJabari, Jimmy, and Meadowโwho were all happily in their own relationships. The night was filled with laughter, dancing, and silly games. And as the evening wound down, Ky realized somethingโhe wasnโt just hanging out with Kala. He was with her. For real. And it felt good.
Maybe this was what it meant to be with someone. To grow, laugh, and even wear matching pajamas.
The night ended with Ky and Kala sharing a quiet moment, watching the city lights outside.
"How are you feeling?" Kala asked, leaning into him.
Ky turned to her, his heart pounding in his chest. โI think... I think Iโm feeling good. Iโm glad we did this. You know, with the matching pajamas and all.โ
Kala chuckled, resting her head on his shoulder. "Iโm glad too."
And for the first time in a long time, Ky didnโt feel like he needed to run.
He was where he wanted to be. Possibly forever.
