End of The Sims.

If you haven’t heard, EA just fired most of The Sims team and silently killed the franchise (what was left after the closure of The Sims Studio at least) and moved the remaining team to the mobile division. This means that there probably won’t really be anymore Sims games for PC or Console other than maybe a few stuff/expansions for TS4. (and I have a strong impression that The Sims Mobile won’t last very long either.)

It seems like they’re trying to pass off what’s happening as just some layoffs for budget reasons and down play what’s happening.

This game…

has brought me (and millions of other of course!) sooooo much joy. I cannot state that in just a few sentences. It has pulled me through darker periods of my life by bringing me joy when there essentially was none.

These budget cuts and half of the team ‘abandoning the ship’ is hard to watch. It seems like it’s all falling apart, slowly. Where was the ‘Good News’ in all this?

For me, the end of The Sims will be when they decide to no longer make games for pc. The mod community has given this game a beating heart, without all of that the game would not be the same.

I really really hate the fact the decided to try to make The Sims a mobile game. In my opinion there should not go any budget to that department, whatsoever. The Sims wasn’t made for that, by doing so they downrated the game to any other in-game purchase app thingy.

If we just could go back in time and make sure Maxis never ‘handed’ The Sims franchise over to EA, a what a dream that would be.
