October 15, 2021 Nintendo Direct: The Last Major Free Content Update

When the new update launches, we will update here with the full patch notes as we always do, including the full list of new items/characters and features.
Brewster's Roost cafe will be added to the Museum. It will be open 24 hours, and will include an amiibo feature to invite characters to share a coffee with you.
Boat rides with Kapp'n will cost you 1,000 miles, and he'll take you to new kinds of mystery islands with new goodies to collect.
Harv's Island is getting a plaza upgrade, which will include shops featuring our favorite NPCs (such as Saharah and Kicks) and some new ones (like Harriet!)
Available for you & your villagers in the Residence Center plaza, the group stretching activity includes motion controls that encourage players to get up and stretch for real!
A feature many players have been waiting for, the new update will bring you a cooking mechanic, including new crops such as tomatoes and wheat to pad your pantries!
Villagers will be able to invite you over to visit, or drop by and visit player homes.
We're getting yet another storage expansion (3 upgrades, bringing the current maximum from 2,400 to 5,000!) as well as more customization options for the exterior of player homes.
You can now place lighting features and other decor on the ceiling, and use wallpapers to create an *accent* wall in rooms!
You will now be able to build more Bridges/Inclines (up to 10 each instead of 8.) We're also getting 9 new fences, and fences will become customizable!
We'll be getting a new storage shed, which can be placed anywhere on the island and give you access to your home storage.
Similarly, we’ll be getting a portable ABD - put it next to your shops for quick and easy Bell withdrawals!
You will be able to change villagers’ behaviors by placing ordinances (example; make all villagers wake up early or late to coincide with your personal schedule)
“Nook 101”: This is a new guide for "Easy island living", which puts together a *lot* of basic tutorials and reminders all in one place - especially great for new players, which we might see an influx of with such a major update!
New items will be available in your Nook Mile shop, including improvements to existing features like your camera, and access to new features, like the cooking mechanic.
Players will be able to gain access to 11 new hairstyles and 11 new reactions!
The Ladder Set Up Kit will allow you to permanently place ladders on island cliffs - this is a great new feature for players who enjoy setting up obstacle course islands, or who have a lot of cliffs and want to free up inventory space.
Gyroid Fragments can be dug up on your island now, and they’re very reminiscent of the GameCube Gyroids: plant and water them to grow unique Gyroids with sound effects, and put together your own background music!
A NEW PAID DLC EXPANSION WAS ANNOUNCED AS WELL
The “Animal Crossing: Happy Home Paradise” DLC allows players to visit an archipelago where you can help characters design their dream vacation homes. You can also learn new design techniques and use them on your Player home. This feature will be available by selecting “I want to go to work” at the airport.
Players can get the DLC by either paying $24.99 on the store page, or by purchasing a Nintendo Online Expansion pass for $49.99/year ($79.99/year for the family plan). The Nintendo Online Expansion pass also comes with the new N64 and Sega Genesis retro packages.
All of this was put together based on just the footage available in today's Nintendo Direct. I'll be posting again on the day of the release with patch notes, including a full list of new items and characters (we have a character list now, but I want to wait for the final cut).
