grapesandwatermelon I know you don't know Final Fantasy XIII story, but here's an overview before reading it. The characters, Lightning, Hope, Snow and Fang are L'Cies. A L'Cie is a human given powers by Fal'Cie (a magical being) But a L'Cie is viewed as the bringer of the apocalypse by normal humans. So, they were hunted down by soldiers which are called PSICOM.

Before Lightning was branded as L'Cie, she was a soldier. And the last line mentions Cocoon, which is like Earth to them.
