[ gun ] in the midst of a stand-off, sender reaches over and gently guides receiver's gun down, making them lower it
the revolver is a familiar weight. he had it in the before, when his face and heart were both whole. it followed him into this new, uglier, life. every other bullet chamber is empty, three chances against three chances. he should have already pulled the trigger. drawing from the hate of his alter ego, harvey has the barrel aimed true.
kara's hand reaches over and presses on his wrist. it does not matter if he tries to fight back, harvey's only human. the kryptonian would be successful in getting him to lower the gun. if it were bruce, or hell, even clark, he would have fought back, but ... he can't fuck up this bad in front of one of kids. ( that's all they are. kara and jason and duke and the rest. kids. )
harvey drops the gun to his side. his eyes don't leave the target, not yet, but when she says his name, he sighs. feet turn and he's walking home, ignoring what has yet to be said. he couldn't pull the trigger; he needs his wife. " sorry kara. " sorry he's such a disappointment. sorry he fucked up.
[ HAIR ]: sender slowly reaches out to catch a loose strand of the receiver’s hair and tuck it gently and securely back behind their ear, letting their touch linger afterwards. (if the receiver has short hair, then the sender reaches out and gently runs their fingers through their hair to smooth it back.) @truthcrusade
the white portion of his hair was always unruly. it was as if the strands knew they belonged to the darker angels on harvey's shoulders. lois would often sooth the wildness within with a gentle hand. her touch has long since stopped startling him. the hospital bed isn't comfortable, but with her body now against his sharing the rough blanket, he doesn't mind. just another stay in paradise.
[ARM]: after holding their hand, the sender releases the receiver, but slowly glides their hand up the full length of their arm, lingering on the upper arm, then the shoulder, then resting their touch against the side of their neck. from @firedblanks wifey
they've been in this car for an hour. harvey is thankful for the driver and the privacy screen in between. when she lets go of his hand, he frowns, immediately missing the comfort of her touch, but she makes up for it just as quick. as her fingers slide over the smooth skin of his neck, the attorney leans towards his wife. paperwork signed and all. " you know, we'll be stuck in traffic for another couple of hours. " he reaches over, unbuckles both their seatbelts, and drags her into his lap. his face buries into her clothing and shoulders rise and fall with his deep breaths. " i think i'll just keep holding on for a little while. "
"Harvey, don't. You'll rip out your iv. You can't go anywhere in this state." The Bat ignores the demands he's making, the threats. He knows how hot that anger can burn when people you love get taken from you in such a violent manner. You don't think, all you see and feel is red and anger that burns through the veins and leaves you shaking from the sheer force of it.
He draws near as Harvey continues to fight against his restraints, he can't let him go. He knows Harvey will actually kill the cops who hoped the Joker with his plan, and they can't lose Harvey. They can't. They need him. Gotham needs him. He's going to lead Gotham out of this darkness – he has to....
A gloved hand rests on the bar on the hospital bed, his grab is tight. "Tell me what you remember, think Harvey, we're losing time. The clown is still loose and whoever helped him are still walking around free."
If Bruce thinks Harvey is going to give even a hint of what he knows, he's wrong. But Harvey isn't sure himself. Not certain of his own memories, he turns away from the Bat, trying to sort out what is real and what is not. "I can't see, Batman. They took half my sight. Half my hearing. My life. " The doctor said he won't regain them. The acid that took half his face amassed at his head, dropping by quantity as it traveled down his body. His neck was halved, but the further down his body, the less he lost. That is his only luck.
"I have nothing for you." He's stopped yelling, stop focusing on the noise, the clutter that is around them. He's only focused on his hate. The fractured psyche of a man who now has nothing left to lose. "Get out. Get. The hell. Out." Each word spit through lips and broken cheek.
"This Joker doesn't have a reason. You're probably next."
❛ i can’t stop thinking about you. ❜
she's in his home. she's in his house and she's in his lap, curled up on his couch. her hair smells like vanilla and the mint from her tongue draws him in. harvey's arms are wrapped around her shoulders as the television blares a comedian's joke. " hm... is that right? " his head bends; he nibbles on her ear. " i can't stop thinking about you either, lois. i think you've suckered me. "
7 😁
she's bent over the arm of their couch, lips open, hair flying about her head. he has his teeth in her neck, scraping at her skin. his hips move in what was a perfect rhythm, but every time colby moans, he gets faster. her ankles rest on the small of his back and as his teeth move to pinch at her nipple, he slams into her, all while falling apart at the seams. one hand rises to her throat, where his thumb presses down. " god i love it when you scream. "
Matches stares up, undaunted and amused. Watching as he breaks his toothpick in half, tilting his head with a look that asked 'Can you do that to me too, Boss?' before grinning. " That's a lot of threats, Boss. I think you know there are better ways to shut me up." 😏
"Matches, I think you like riling me up on purpose." Harvey reaches up and snatches the man by his hair, pulling his head back. His free hand wraps around the buckle of his belt. " I think I have something to keep you from running that mouth. "
" Don't tease unless you're gonna back it up, Boss." He grins, twisting the tooth pick between his tounge and teeth. "I can still do ya favors your dumber grunts can't do."
"Is that right?" Harvey clicks his tongue against the roof of his mouth twice. "I got just a two dozen men in the payroll, and you think you can surprise me? " Harvey reaches forward and snatches the toothpick from Matches's mouth, pops it in half, and throws it over his shoulder. A step forward and he shadows the smooth talker. "I think I liked you better when you had to prove your worth."
Matches, fixing his tie with a small smirk. "You got anything for me, big boy? Been awhile." :)))) asked @crimefightr
Harvey can't say he's met a man like Matches. There's both familiar and unfamiliar in their face, and Matches is one of the few that feel ... comfortable when Harvey's passion makes itself known in higher volume voices and gruffer tones. The attorney looks down as Matches straightens the former's clothing. "I think I'm going to flip a coin to see if I half or just not pay you this week, Malone." Matches even smells good, a drink that Harvey knows too well. Hm.
“ it’d be just like the old days.”
"Jason, I don't believe you were around during my good old days, son." Notice that Harvey says good, because the days before that were even worse. The happy memories he holds are of him and Bruce in school, running through college courses with a passion he no longer holds. It was his election campaign, his victory, and his success over the mob's patriarchs. Jason was just a street kid then. He hadn't set his eyes on the batmobile's tires. Hadn't truly lost his momma. His first dad was alive then, too. "I wish you had been."
“i’ve always been two steps ahead.”
" hard to get behind anyone when you're alone. " harvey lights up his cigar and takes a heavy pull of the wrapped tobacco. it was hard digging up intel on the other man. he shared his secrets with no one. and harvey was never a man who went in blind. this was ... uncomfortable for the lawyer. " must be miserable existence. "
[ SMOOCH ] — sender presses gentle kisses down the back of receiver's neck
he knows she's trying to wake him. and it's working a great deal better than he'd admit. colby laughed at the imprint of writing on his face when he fell asleep at his desk. he groans, reaching behind him, fingers reaching to the middle of her back. " cruel to wake an old man after so little sleep. " he twists quickly, scooping her up in his arms. " well, i'm good and awake now. "
"fun." she spits out the word like it's poison in her mouth. the image of harvey manspread in his office chair sears through her mind, the unconscious body at her feet alive and warm in his lap. lips and teeth at their neck. wandering hands. though, she's never experienced it, she knows the intimacy that can come with feeding. colby's stomach flips, and she has to swallow her heart down like bile rising in her throat. another painful blow.
"nothing about this is right." he approaches her and she stands. shoulders back. held high. colby's trying to hold her position, to stay strong, but he's got the high ground and she's waiting for his words to turn into weapons. to blow her knees out from underneath her and stick themselves into her back like knives. there are tears on her cheeks by the time he's grasped her chin, the wetness of them dripping onto his fingers the longer he lingers. she's breaking apart. "i love you so much, and you became one of them." just like the men who hurt her. just like the men who stunted her before she could even grow. "what am i supposed to do?" the entirety of her lower jaw trembles with desperate quelling of a sob. "what am i supposed to do, harvey?"
" look at you. " his voice deepens, a booming sound from a looming figure. his hand wipes at the tears that run down her face. he memorizes the texture, the shade, the warmth of her skin. focuses on particles he can now grasp to commit to his collection of memories. she just doesn't understand! he could grant her the WORLD. harvey sighs, hands coming to her shoulders. he pulls her to him, crushing weight of his arms demanding her to still. " you just can't see it yet, baby, just stay with me. it's all going to be okay. you know i could never hurt you. "
what was once truth now may bend to a lie. couldn't he? couldn't he drain her dry? but what would he do with her body? could he say goodbye? he doesn't think another burial will help, and even though he has achieved his greatness, there is still a spark of the flame he carried for her. " you'd be mine, no one could hurt you again. " they say the crown is heavy. " you could ruin those who would do the same hell you endured, colby. we're not monsters. " two fingers lift her chin so he can press his head against hers, nose to nose. " it just feels so good, you'll see. you know i could keep you here until you said yes. " he wouldn't... would he?
"and if you knew me, like i thought i knew you, you'd know i'd rather die than be okay with any of this..." she can't look at him, afraid she'll fall to pieces before she's properly even built herself up. boot clad feet stop next to the body on the ground so that she can squat to feel for a pulse. once she finds one, her shoulders fall. for a moment, she looks like she might collapse in on herself. her eyes are gaping maws of despair when she finally lifts her head to look at harvey.
"what are you doing, harv?" he doesn't need advanced hearing to pick out the wobble in her voice. from here, it looks pretty obvious what he's doing. making a grab at power. becoming one of colby's greatest fears. betraying her in the worst way possible. but she wants to hear it from his mouth. wants to hear the man she loves, the man she thought she knew, tell her how he's willingly slit her throat. the gun in colby's belt sits heavy against her hip. the notion that she'll never be able to pull the trigger sits heavier.
oh, he knows you, baby girl. harvey sighs and rises to his feet, towering over her even from across the room. he wonders if he'd have a shadow. heavy steps in italian brown leather take him to the left of his desk where he pushes the thick furniture aside like it was nothing, like a pencil flicked by a finger. " they're alive, darling. " irises glow the same shade as what he drinks. " that one came for fun. we just got a little .... carried away. " he doesn't laugh, not now. but the smile on his face is enough.
he does miss her touch, back when he was capable of feeling warmth. another step brings him close enough to reach out and feel the fabric of her shirt and the bones of her shoulder underneath. " think about it colby. baby, all this power in your hands. those who fucked with you wouldn't stand a chance. i know you want to do right, let me help you get there. i miss you. " he's close now, he can smell her body, smell her scent underneath the soap and perfume. fingers rise to hold her chin with a softness he wasn't sure he was capable of anymore.
" you would be magnificent. stay with me. please. "
over my dead body.
" THAT CAN BE ARRANGED. " harvey's alter had not made an appearance in some time. this were going too well. pulling the pin of a grenade, the man throws the explosive at the vigilante. harvey would be horrified by his own behavior in the future, but he's not in control. " YOU LET THE BIG GUY MAKE YOU SOFT. THESE PEOPLE DON'T DESERVE TO LIVE. " His voice, a deeper and darker tone than Harvey's usual cadence, is loud. The split figure howls to rise above the sounds of sirens. There's another person in front of him on their knees, hands behind their heads, and in between their splayed fingers, Harvey holds the barrel of the gun. " HE'S BRIBED FOUR COPS, A JUDGE, AND YOU THINK HE DESERVES TO WALK FREE? " Jason might have not a chance. Harvey doesn't take his eye off of Red as he spits blood and then stops to pull the trigger.
get back. get back right now.
" you know I won't do that, colby. " sometimes, he wonders if she underestimates him. before the acid attack, he was known for words, not fists. but harvey was never weak. ( and this is something colby knows. she isn't calling him helpless. but he tires of hearing her words of warning, even if they are with cause. ) " you don't have to hide me. you don't even have to protect me. i'm alright, baby. "
